If you are looking for a true home cooking experience in the Italian countryside, look no farther than Maria Pia Pucci’s kitchen just 6 km outside of the wall of Lucca in San Quirico di Moriano. This is not a flashy and expensive meal that you will find inside of Lucca, this is simple and authentic. The tortelli is so good you will find yourself dreaming of the ragu and moist tortelli that are made daily in her kitchen. The traditional Tuscan bean soup that has been passed down in the Pucci family for over 200 years is one of the most flavorful and hearty soups you will ever be blessed to indulge in while her thinly sliced roast beef with garlic, olive oil and basil literally melts upon touching your tongue. If you are fortunate to be there after one of the locals has been out boar hunting, be sure to taste her wild boar over polenta! As for the wine, stay simple and order the wonderful house red that the Pucci’s bottle and serve in classic liter crafts. There is plenty of free parking and of course there is wonderful coffee and desserts to finish the meal … but do not leave without taking a peak inside of Maria Pia’s kitchen. You will be moved when you see how clean and organized everything is kept, not to mention that the whole kitchen is run by a 70+ year old woman.
