I couldn’t get reservations to any Jiro restaurant on such short notice and everyone I spoke with said that Kyubey was the best sushi in Tokyo. Thankfully, there was a Kyubey (two of them actually) in the hotel I was staying at, so, it was rather easy to get a reservation.
I had eaten at the various tourist trap sushi places in and outside the Tsujiki Fish Market and this was by far better.
The fish was fresh, expertly prepared and presented. It had to be some of the best sushi I’ve had.

We arrived Tokyo 3 hours late and checked into the hotel. Was hungry, raining and decided to eat dinner in the hotel at this restaurant. I figured it would be pricy, but we were tired. Well I was right, it was tearfully pricy. Fortunately the food was excellent. We had the Omakase, efficiently prepared and superb. The sushi was super fresh. Although soy sauce and ginger were provided, don’t insult the chef by using it except for the last dish of tekka maki and don’t ask for more wasabi and absolutely don’t stir in a chunk into the soy sauce like we love to do in Singapore. Everything you need is done by the chef. Just use your hands and enjoy. With the perfect seasoning by the chef you get to savor exquisite seafood as the chef intended, a well balanced and seasoned sushi. It was very very good. Was it worth the price? That’s debatable. If your palate can discern, then yes. But if you think sakae or sushi tei is good, then save your money.

Ginza kyubey is one of the frag ship sushi bar in Japan. This sushi bar is one of the kyubey’s five branchs. Every branch worked for lunch. In this time we visited here for the lunch. Compared to dinner, for lunch appetizer was little bit simple but enough. Nigiri was same. If you are real sushi freak, I recommend you to visit here for the dinner, but very expensive. For the price it will enter the top 10 of Japan. In that point of view, lunch is not so bad I think so.
