Ginza Manneken

I thought these were good, but not amazing. They did have really interesting flavors — matcha, tiramisu, etc, but I would rather save my calories and eat Belgian waffles elsewhere (there are plenty of other places in Europe or the States), and eat mochi and other delicious French pastries instead. Pro tip, try one of these if you’re curious, but go next door and try the mochi — it’s some of the best I’ve had.
My co-​worker and I tried 3 different flavors: matcha, tiramisu, and a chocolate covered one. I thought they would be piping hot when I got them, but they were cold which was a little disappointing. The matcha green tea didn’t have as much of a matcha taste — it was my least favorite of the three. It was also a bit too sweet for my taste. The tiramisu was really interesting and unique, with a cream in the middle — it was also a bit too sweet. I did enjoy this one better than the matcha one. The plain with the dark chocolate on top was simple but executed well — you could actually taste the waffle and there weren’t too many flavors trying to overpower one another. Sometimes, less is more. If you want to try some of the crazier flavors, they are certainly interesting and worth trying, but also get one of the classics.
Unfortunately, I don’t think I’d make a special trip to come back here. I’d rather stick to eating mochi or other French pastries. There are lots of places other places to eat waffles for me (as a tourist in Japan).

It’s a little tiny waffle stall in Ginza and they offer Belgian Waffles. It’s a snack that you pickup and go since there isn’t any seating. The waffles looked great and were good but I do wish the waffles had a crunch and I wish they were served heated.
The food:
Almond Waffles– This was my fav of the three I bought. The almond offered a nice textural contrast to the chew of the waffle. The almond waffles also had a nice subtle sweetness that was nice.
Vanilla Cream Waffle– I thought this was good, it was the second fav behind the almond. The waffle itself wasn’t really a waffle, per se, it seemed more like a waffle sponge cake and the vanilla ice cream had good flavor. The very cool thing is they actually put an ice pack on the bottom of the bag to keep the ice cream cool. #TheJapaneseThinkOfEverything
Rare Cheese– The idea of eating cheese, rare non the less, sounded weird as hell, OK fine, I will try it. lol The cheese wasn’t that bad, it had more like a cheese Danish filling to it so it was a tad sweet. It was good, but not great.

All around Japan’s major cities, I experience the delicious waffle chain phenomenon— known as Manneken. Yes, the logo is Manneken Piss.
These crispy wonderful waffles come in various flavors and are seriously amazing. Flavors change, but some that I experienced are: original, chocolate, green tea, and taro. My favorite is the green tea flavor with the red bean and whipped cream filling, served as a sandwich kind of thing. The best thing to do is buy them and eat them immediately.

Although there’s nothing really Japanese about Belgian waffles here, they do a pretty great job at making Belgian waffles with many flavors to choose from. These were the following I tried:
Chocolate. Butter Caramel, Strawberry, Almond, Maple, Marasaki ima (Sweet Purple Potato/​Yam), and Plain
It’s really difficult to choose a personal favorite so my best advice is to go with your own preference or better yet do what I did and get all the flavors and decide for yourself! :)

Manneken propose une bonne dizaine de variantes, avec des saveurs indémodables et d’autres disponibles uniquement pour une période limitée. Quoi qu’il en soit, elles sont toutes excellentes et ont surtout l’avantage d’être bien fraîches.
L’enseigne possède plusieurs petites échoppes au Japon, celle-​ci située à Ginza attire énormément de monde, ce qui est toujours très bon signe.

These waffles are amazing and very affordable. My favourite flavour was probably the dark chocolate waffle, which wasn’t too sweet. Their waffles are reasonable priced (120 – 147 yen I believe?) so grabbing a few for breakfast the next day is a must!
The lineup was pretty long when I was there but it moved pretty quickly so I didn’t actually have much time to decide on the flavours that I wanted once the waffles were in full-​view. Most people just stood and ate their waffles right away but I decided to bring mine back to the hotel!

Very good waffles. Beware, it’s just a stand, no seating. But still, it is very very good, 2 or more waffles for a meal, but one would make a good snack. Highly recommended.

While looking for the mochi place next to it, I couldn’t help but notice the queue and amazing smells swirling around Manneken.
Sure, they only sell waffles but I think these are possibly THE BEST WAFFLES I HAVE EVER HAD.

I’ve tried the almond, the strawberry, and the matcha waffles, as well as the cheese cream filled one. They were all ridiculously addictive and so satisfying. I highly recommend eating it right there (and telling the staff that so they’ll heat it up). On a nippy spring day, there’re few things more satisfying than a hot waffle. I wish they sold coffee to go with these waffles, but why risk people not liking the coffee. No. Stick to what you know. Stick to making these perfect, crisp, delicious waffles.
