This place is cozy and easy to find, but it is expensive and the food is just okay… the plus side was the English speaking employee that answered all of my questions. He did forget to bring me a water, but when I asked again it came. If you are looking for a place to eat dinner, don’t go here. The food is acceptable for snacks or appetizers. The alcohol is expensive.

This is a great place to go to to grab some beers and izakaya style food. Actually my collegues noticed that there are a few beers from San francisco breweries for sale here. There are also local beers offered. I travel alot to kyoto so I would be coming back and recommending this ace to other business clients. Great atmosphere and the patrons put up with our loud american-ness.

A solid attempt at all beers. Seating is simple. If you respect craft beer you will respect this establishment. Also the food is above expected. Do try the appetizers and the slightly odd menu items

I love this little restaurant/bar. The staff were kind and friendly. Their English was very good(much better than my Japanese) maybe because it is right next to three hostels/inns? We had the Bonito Sashimi appetizer, 8 big pieces of wonderfully fresh fish for 795 yen. Then the mixed appetizer plate which had a delightful variety of food including smoked fish and meat, boiled egg, pickled vegetables, seaweed, raw eggplant, and chicken liver pâté for 980 yen. Lastly we had the seared scallops with a butter sauce that was amazing and for less than 1000 yen. If you are in Kyoto, especially the Higashiyama area, this is a must visit.

Amazing craft beers here! I can’t remember the exact names but I had a wasabi and green tea ipa? And a saison. Both were exceptional! A must for foreigners!

Two parched travelers in a city full of lagers & pilsners stumble into a bar… wishing… hoping… searching… for a hoppy beer. That’s when we see Beer Komachi’s tap list and great scott what a fine tap list it is, 7 rotating taps of IPAs, Stouts, Belgians, and Pale Ales featuring many of Kyoto’s best. I even saw Baird Brewing in the mix of beers up on deck. I also liked that they used beer in several of their dishes(hooray for a large English menu) like karaage fried chicken in beer batter, lamb chops roasted in an IPA sauce and chicken stewed with black beer. The assorted appetizers were excellent and included a beautiful arrangement of smoked fish, Japanese pickles, pickled veggies and liver pâté. We also ordered pike tempura that simply melted in your mouth. For dessert don’t miss the vanilla ice cream with beer, a mere 300 yen.

Nice local place with a good selection of local craft brews and some great food. Had the tofu pizza along with a bitter lager on tap, both were very good. Pair all that up with friendly staff and a relaxing atmosphere. Would highly recommend if you’re looking for a break from the traditional. They also have their menu in English, so if your Japanese is lacking you’ll be able to order just fine!

Such a great, friendly little place where you get great beer. If you’re tired of Sapporo and Asahi, stop in here and chat with Masae. They’ve got 7 or 8 rotating craft beets on tap and a great international selection in bottles as well. Didn’t try the food but the kitchen is open, clean and the menu looked great. Their location is awesome. Cool market street and it’s street level, which is actually rare here in Kyoto. Overall, cozy and cool with great beer and service.

Great people and beers. A half dozen taps of Japanese craft brews, imports in bottles, and a nice overall atmosphere. A little hard to find if you don’t know the area, but word of mouth should help get more business in here so they can continue to expand.
