Cool, not-​as-​touristy vista point with a great view of Kyoto city. Like, really great. It’s a bit of a trek to get here though– there’s a bus that runs about every hour, and taxi’s are generally available, and it seems most of the people got there by taxi. I rode my bike, but note that it’s probably not a good idea if you’re riding a single speed, as the Higashiyama Driveway can be «steep» depending on your riding level. There is apparently a hiking trail up as well, starting from the base of the hill.
I got there around 10:15am, and besides me, there were probably a grand total of 10 other people, which made for a nice, relaxing stroll. I went to specifically see the Ko-​an, a glass tea house installation, but the main temple is also pretty cool and massive. If you’re looking for the stamps, or little charms, they’re in there as well.
