Daimaru Shinsaibashi

Not really my shopping place but when you say Daimaru, it means quality product and expensive.
When I need to find something quality gifts for special people, I usually end up here and usually find it.
So if you are looking for quality product, then Daimaru is the place to go.

Ah yes, the Department Stores in Japan are always a must for me and my other half whenever we go on our annual vacation in Japan. And the reason we always stay at the Nikko Hotel in Osaka is that the Daimaru Department Store is right across the hotel and that my friends, can’t get any better than that.
If you haven’t been to any Department Store’s such as Daimaru, Takashimaya, or Kintetsu Department Stores then you guys and gals don’t know what your missing. All i can say about Japanese Department Stores is that they usually are 7 to 10 floors of anything and everything that range from Clothes to Kitchenware to Japanese China to Furniture and so on. Let’s just say if there is something you are looking for, Daimaru has what you are looking for.
As for a Big Guy like me, with me being six feet tall and 230 pounds, you can forget about me getting any clothes or shoes to fit me here. Japan doesn’t carry sumo size clothes for me so even if it looks nice and attractive to me, there is no way i can fit into any of the clothes they have here so i simply just admire it from afar.
Now if you are looking for cute Japanese dishes and Kitchenware, now this is the place to go. If you want cheap or expensive, they have everything you need here. I wouldn’t suggest buying any of the imported stuff here as they are rather overpriced and can be available in the U.S. or any other place at a cheaper price so just stick to the Japanese items here.
As for woman’s clothes here in Japan. They have everything you want here and the styles range from conservative to outlandish stuff if you choose. That’s what i love about Japan, people here aren’t afraid to dress up and stick out like a sore thumb here. It’s awesome to see, kind of like having a Mardi Gras or freak show right before your very eyes.
Now the reason for me going to the Department Stores is for one reason and one reason only. You have to go to the Basement Level of all Japanese Department Store because… That’s where all the Food is at. From Japanese Sweets to Yakitori to Sushi and Sashimi or to anything your foodie heart desires, it’s all located in the Basement level and all i can say is that i could spend the whole day here in the Basement Level just drooling at all the Beautifully prepared Japanese Desserts and Cakes and Chocolate’s it’s like being in a foodie trance here.
Everything looks so damn good you wish you could eat everything that they offer here. Even the Yakitori and Tempura and other goodies look so delicious you just don’t know where to start. And going to the Fresh Seafood departments where they have Sushi and Sashimi on the cheap and the Fruits and Vegetables are a sight to behold. It’s just a foodie’s dream to see the collaboration of all these item’s put in one area.
On a sidenote, if you are ever in the Basement Level of Daimaru Department Store, make sure you visit the Wittamer Chocolate Shop and make sure you get a box of those Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies. We always get them when we go to Japan. These cookies are as light as air and oh so good. You can never eat just one.
And the one reason i love coming to Daimaru as well is because i’m a huge Cigar fan and they have Cuban Cigar’s for sale which puts a big smile on my face… Wink, Wink
So in ending, all i have to say is that you have to at least visit a Japanese Department Store even if it’s your one and only visit to Japan and experience the amazing atmosphere it has to offer. The service here at Japanese Department Store are always friendly and eager to please even if you don’t speak Japanese. Daimaru Department Store will always have a place in our hearts literally…

A great store with a great range of items in an nice compact space so it’s not overwhelming, and a great atmosphere. OK maybe I’m a little biased because of the familiarity factor… my mother always shopped here so I always get a bit nostalgic whenever I come back here. It’s not as fashion forward and trendy as some other department stores, but I like that it’s toned down and not like a zoo inside like in those other stores.

After I went to my usual salon for having my hair cut and dyed, I make it a rule to drop in at this department store. First I entered the north mall and I looked at the blouses in Italian brand «N». I am a big fan of N, because the blouses provided here are elegant and decent. Especially frills around neck are excellent. I bought a black blouse in another branch where a shop clerk was a little impolite and pushy. She said to me, «You have wide shoulders». I have never been said such a rude thing. I think her remark about one’s physical shape hurts prospective customers. On the contrary, the shop clerk here was so polite and elaborate. I decide to buy a blouse here from now on.
On the seventh floor there are a few shops for large size, most of which are famous brand of foreign manufacturers. The shop clerk of a certain manufacturer in Japan was so kind. I looked for a skirt for autumn and found a nice one. I wanted to know whether it went well with the blouse I had bought. So I changed my blouse and tried the skirt in a fitting room. Unfortunately it didn’t match the blouse well, so I gave it up. Although I declined to buy the skirt, she was so kind that she folded my blouse I had bought in another shop neatly.
Around the entrance of the main hall I found a cute pink panda. It asked us to donate caps of used pet bottles. The collected caps are utilized to buy vaccinates for children in the world. It needs only caps of beverage bottles and requires peeling off the seal.
I think it is an awesome attempt for such a major department store as Daimaru to act for world peace and happiness. I do cooperate with this attempt willingly.

You have everything in this department stall, something for everyone! Many levels of interesting things for you to explore and great for shoppers. I would definitely recommend anyone to come here and shop! Price seems to be reasonable!
