Umeda Sky Building Floating Garden Observatory

Beautiful view at the top! I recommend coming here at night time because it wasn’t too crowded, you could see the Osaka skyline, your white clothes glow in the dark, and they played soothing music at the top. Very magical experience and worth seeing.

The view from the observatory was very nice. We went for sundown and had a great experience. It was easy to find and there was no queue. If you are not afraid of height this is a great place to go.

Of course, this place is an extremely popular tourist attraction. But if you’re a local, this is pretty much a date spot. You are treated to a 360 degree view of Osaka from about 173m high. At the time of my visit (December 2015) price of admission was 800 Yen (about $ 7).
The name of this place is a bit of a misnomer. I didn’t see any actual garden around at all.
It was nice during Christmas because I got to write my wishes and post it on the public tree. Also, during that time, there was a German food fest going on at the base of the observatory area which was so much fun!
The night time view is spectacular, so try to get there around sunset and watch the city come alive.

Awesome and breathtaking to look at something this big and grand. Has the nicest observatory. It cost like 5 dollars per person but so worth it.

Pretty, minus all of the Chinese tourists taking ugly selfies with their atrocious selfie sticks. Be careful because they’ll whack you with those stupid sticks. It was so bad, it made me feel embarrassed to be of Chinese ancestry. God, my people have a way of ruining everything. I’m so sorry.

I was very disappointed to find out that there is actually no garden in the floating garden :)
A great place for a romantic date with a nice view of Northern Osaka.

We arrived in Osaka after spending quite some time playing with deer in Nara. After a 10 minute walk through an underground tunnel from the main station, we finally arrived at the Umeda Sky Building. Wow. The building is designed to be incredible modern, especially with the circle ring that almost looks like it’s on fire at night. If you take a photo with both buildings on the side, it looks like three circles linked together.
The experience heading up to the 39^th floor is probably one of the most surreal experiences I’ve ever had. The elevator ride is pretty standard, but once you get to the escalator and orient yourslef relative to the two buildings, you realize that you are about to travel 4 stories in a suspended tunnel. The blue lighting every 10 feet make it even more cool, as if you are slowly floating up to the top.
There’s no garden (aka no flowers), but you’ll see a view of the city from the top. Unfortunately on the day that we arrived, Osaka was pouring on and off, so it wasn’t the most enjoyable experience. I gave it three stars because the price is pretty steep for what you actually see, but since you can experience the the escalators and some of the view (indoors though) without paying, Umeda Sky Building is still a cool suggestion if you are in Osaka.

I dont know how I havent written a review about this place yet, since it is my favoritest place in the whole wide world. so far, at least :)
Its fairly close to the Osaka Train station; maybe about a 10 minute walk if you take the underground tunnel. However, since I was on my own and had never been I had taken a cab.
I had gone around 9:30p…and Im sooo glad I did. It was easy to follow the instructions to where i needed to go. You need to take an elevator to a certain floor (I forgot which one, but the signs will tell you where :)); there, youll see an area where you can purchase tickets to go up to the observatory. I believe the ticket was around 700 yen (which is very much worth it!)
Then youll take go up an escalator, that isn’t in the building. Really. the middle of the escalator goes through the circular middle part of the building and its really cool since its lit up. It seems like youre going into outer space! ^_​_​^ it just makes the suspense for the view even better.
Youll get up to an area where youll be able to walk around and look out of the big windows. There are a bunch of cute little seats, which are perfect for couples out on a date. Theres also a little bar so that you can have a drink while enjoying the view!
To go up to the very top (the actual floating garden), you take a small elevator that goes up really quickly 0.0 Then when you step out… its like youre walking on stars! ^_​_​_​_​_​^ It was the most beautiful sight! You get a 360 view of Osaka’s twinkling building lights, as well as the glowing rocks on the ground. It was one of the prettiest things Ive ever seen… which is why i highly recommend going at night because you wont be able to see the rocks on the ground glow from the black light, during the day.
Now for you love birds, there is also a little place that you can pay a fee to go down with your loved one and place a lock on the fence. It has two seats for you two to sit down on while the place goes off with some lights :) I believe that there are only certain times that you can do this (I took a picture of the info and place).
Anybody that is visiting Osaka really needs to visit the floating garden .Or everyone just needs to visit this place at least once in their life! Its truly life changing.
BTW, just a warning! It does get awfully windy up there so be sure to hold onto any hats and bring a jacket during the cold seasons!

One of Osaka’s tallest observatories, Umeda Sky Building makes even the trip up to the top an interesting experience! Although the name «Floating Garden» is a misleading label as no flower is on top, this is still a recommendation destination especially if you have the Osaka Amazing Pass.
About a 10 minute walk from the Umeda subway station, Umeda Sky Building is a modern icon of Osaka. A trip up to the top includes a glass elevator to the middle level and a clear escalator path that goes between the building’s twin towers. On the top, you can choose to see the skyline either indoor at the second-​to-​top level or the very top’s outdoor observatory. Because of its unobstructed view to the west, this is the perfect place to see the beautiful sunset!
Especially if you are going on a romantic trip, Umeda Sky Building is a great time for a relaxing view of Osaka. From the top, you can see Osaka itself, the newly developed Shin Osaka suburb, and the river flow into the Osaka Bay. Check the Internet for the sunset time and go up to there then!
Once you are done checking out the skyline, go to the basement level and check out the food court street that is made with a nostalgic vibe. This is a great place to grab something to eat after absorbing the beautiful view upstairs.

If you’re tired of walking, shopping, and eating, Umeda Sky Building is worth checking out. I believe the entry price is now 800 yen, but, with the current strength of the dollar, its really a minimal fee easily justified by the impressive view of Osaka. There’s also a café upstairs and the opportunity to take a stroll outside and hang a heart-​lock to the gate with your S.O.

This is where I spent my last evening in Osaka before we took an overnight bus to Tokyo. Since the bus station was nearby, we had plenty of time beforehand to explore the area.
The tower is a just a short walk from the Umeda stop from the train station. I would say about a 10 minute walk, but with our luggage in tow, it was a bit more of a struggle. However, we still made the trek and got to see the floating garden with all our baggage.
As you enter the building, you go up several escalators before you reach a certain floor to take an elevator up. The elevator opens up to a breathtaking panoramic view of the city. There are areas to take pictures and area to sit along the windows and admire the river.
Since we went at night, the city was brightly lit! We continued up the escalator after paying admissions to get on an elevator that will take us to the rooftop. WORTH IT
The roof top is lit by black light, so imagine the fun we had, haha. Aside from being easily amused, the view was quite a sight to take in. You get all angles of the city below from the top and a view of the river.
Personally, one visit is enough, but it’s nice to see the city at different times of the day if you were to return again. Plus, they have an area where you can leave love locks with your significant other. You can buy those before you buy your admission ticket.

Admission is 700Y and you don’t pay until you get to the 39^th floor. Really cool experience going up the glass elevator and the escalator that ran from one side to the other.
The admission gets you to the main floor (indoor) and the roof which is open with an amazing view of Osaka. I was lucky enough to get here just before it got dark. The sky was a little cloudy and the temperature was not too cold. The place was not too crowded at all. It was worth every yen.
The building is about a 10 minute walk from the Osaka station. There is an underground passage that gets you across the channel. Really hard to miss. Clean bathroom are located at the top.

I really love this building. It was built in 1993 but has aged pretty well given how funky the design is. Even though I’ve been to Osaka several times, I still make the trip out here on a regular basis.
The building is located near Osaka Station. It’s about a 5 minute walk from Yodobashi Camera, through a tunnel underneath a large construction site. It may seem a bit out of the way but it’s really not that far of a walk.
It’s priced fairly inexpensively at 700 yen or so (considering a lot of other observatories are much more expensive, such as the Harukas Abenos tower).
The great thing about this building is that because it’s not the newest, nor is it the tallest, it’s never too busy. I arrived about 40 minutes before sunset on a clear day and was able to take in the views until the Osaka lights flickered on. As an aside, because it’s not too busy, it was the perfect place to take a time-​lapse video!
Lastly, bathrooms are impeccable and look new.
Tip: look for the building with the highway running through it!

If you want to see Osaka in one view this is the right place to go. At the height of 173 meters you get to see every speck of Umeda. I won’t lie, at first I wasn’t expecting much at all, since Osaka doesn’t really have skyscrapers like NYC; however that exact reason was what made me appreciate the view. The clean city with a silent river streaming by the side was beautiful to look at. The Café is of course over priced and most seats are occupied by fat ass tourists that like to hog nice spots, but the rooftop is extremely pleasant to walk around. I personally recommend the west view for photos. A must go in Osaka.

Pour accéder à la vue 360° sur Osaka, il faudra prendre un ascenseur puis un escalator.
Le «jardin flottant «(une terrasse) étant à ciel ouvert, pensez à y aller un jour/​soir de beau temps! (pas comme nous! surtout que les parapluies sont interdits!!)
Il existe cependant un étage inférieur couvert, mais la vue y est moins impressionnante.
PS: L’accès est payant.

You have to go there when you are in Osaka.
You can enjoy 360-​degree awesome panoramic view from 173 meters on the floating garden. The lift is like a spaceship and takes me to the universe. The experience would be an forgettable thing.
At day time, there are a lot of skyscrapers. At night time, there are a lot of lights.
But I recommend the sunset… Just amazing.
Just make sure… it’s in outside so feel so cold in winter.

Love the architecture of this building. The Umeda Sky Building is probably a 15 – 20 minute walk north of Osaka Station. It serves as the best observatory tower in Osaka, and a very unique one at that. There are offices here as well as food vendors in the basement, which gives off the aura of the olden times.

Yes, it’s a bit of a tourist trap, but so what. Killer views of the entire city. The glass elevator can be a bit overwhelming for even those used to heights, but you’ll get over it. The free standing escalators can be a bit nerve racking too, but I thought it was a pretty interesting engineering fear.
Price wise, at 7 yen it’s a bit much, but they can charge whatever they want I suppose.
If you’ve got some time to kill during the day in Osaka, this is definitely a spot to check out.

You have to see this building to believe it — it’s such a bizarre piece of architecture. Two towers are linked at the top by a square bridge with a circular hole in the middle. There are lifts that are in a see-​through shaft that appears detached from the building, and even the fire escape stairs have their own little isolated tower. Half-​way up there is corridor bridge connecting the two side towers, and nearer the top two glass-​enclosed escalators emerge from one side and thrust upwards into the circular ring.
You have to ask yourself, «what was the architect thinking when he designed this place?» It’s one of the oddest-​looking buildings I’ve seen.
It is, however, an essential place to visit in Osaka for the best view of the city, as you can get access right onto the roof and walk all the way around, both day and night. The vista is spectacular to say the least, although it is a little windy!
The lifts take you up almost to the top, where you have to use the escalators to get to the roof; this is perhaps the scariest part as you feel very exposed and vulnerable despite being enclosed in a tube. The roof terrace felt much safer!
It’s worth visiting at night as there is some nice lighting installed on the roof area; it could even be quite romantic if you don’t suffer from vertigo.

As it is located in the central part of Osaka, you can enjoy the vast panorama and the sweet illuminations. Because I went in the depth of winters, anyway It was cold. Wind was very strong. I was almost blown. Please be careful and warm yourself. It is on the 40^th floor, and there is no help for it.
The architecture is very unique and stylish! Among them the Lumi skywalk where light stones glittering in a step is very fantastic. I feel totally strolling in the starlit Milky Way.
During the evens concerning the love such as Valentine, white day, or the Star Festival, it offers special services and I propose you go here with your sweet, but should look for another free spot. The night view of Osaka can be fantastic because it bristles with high-​rise buildings and there are numerous neon lamps.
I think that admission of 700 yen is slightly high. It may be appropriate for 500 yen.

I went here alone but it was cool expect I had to be patients that there are too many couples… You can view the whole Osaka city in daytime and you can see the beautiful and romantic night view. I went in daytime and it reminds me of Tokyo Tower. I went here as a tourist from Tokyo and wanted to see the view of Osaka.
I tried the spectators in Umeda and near the beach but could not see the whole scenes. If you wanted to see the whole city this would be great. If you were acrophobia I am afraid you should not go. The fee of the entrance is not chap but you can enjoy it for sure. Next time I would like to come at night.
