Mimurotoji

三村戸寺 Mimurotoji Temple has been existing for 1200 years and occupies in the northern knoll of Uji. It is also known familiarly as a flower temple. There are large gardens that offer some varieties of flowers in the precinct of this temple.

It is called «flower temple», because seasonal flowers are blooming all year round.
Among of them especially famous for numerous numbers or kinds of hydrangeas. In the compounds along the hilly paths many colored hydrangeas are blooming during the early summer rainy season. When I visited here with my husband, it was raining, so hydrangeas were shining hit by rains. During this season, lotus flowers are beautiful. They come out elegantly in a muddy pond as if you were in the Buddhist paradise.
It also became a stage of Genji Monogatari. According to its popular trans-​age ancient literature, love oracles telling your fortune are provided here. Uji was regarded as remote place compared with popular and showy central area of Kyoto city in the Heian period, however romantic and passionate love affairs were done here in Uji.
If you come here, don’t miss the image of hare in front of the main hall, please. It holds a big ball where a big hole is opened with a stone egg placed. If you can hold the egg upright, your dream will come true. So please try it! Also, its huge humorous sight will catch your hearts.
