A reptile café in Yokohama. Official Name: Yokohama Anettai Chakan Direct translation: Yokohama Subtropics Tea House Nick Name: Hachu-rui Café Nick Name in English: Reptile Café If you want to munch on cheesecake, sip some Chinese tea, and at the same time pet a giant turtle, this is the place for you. It is sort of like a picnic in a zoo, inside a reptile house. What surprised me the most was how clean and organized the café was. Based on the location — a second story of an old building — I was expecting a dirty old café. First of all, there was no unwanted odor. The owner must do a good job up keeping the place and taking care of the reptiles. Caution: Do not try to eat the reptiles. This is not a «suppon»(a cuisine turtle) hotpot here. These are pet reptiles — not food reptiles. SYSTEM: The owner is an animal loving person. She welcomes reptile loving people to come. Even if you are not super crazy reptile lover(like me), she welcomes you as long as you show respect to the animals. You are welcomed to stay here for a long time. If the café is very busy, then they ask that you limit your stay to 2 hours max. Young children or pregnant mothers may not be allowed inside. PHOTO: Allowed. You are welcomed to take photos. No flash photography allowed. Smoking: The entire café is completely non-smoking. CHARGE: Reptile Café does not ask for table charge. You just pay for what you ordered. COST: 400 Yen — Cheese Cake 800 Yen — Pu-Al Tea — — — — — — — — — — – 1299 Yen for my nice tea time. Conclusion: I been to goat café in Shibuya, Penguin Bar in Ikebukuro, and a bird café in Aoyama. Basically, I enjoy going to these unusual places. Yokohama Anettaichakan quickly became one of my favorite animal cafes.
