I love indulging in freshly baked bread and that’s why B. read is my favorite place to go to when I’m at Ben’s Independent Grocer! This little gem of a place is hidden at the very back of the grocery store but it’s not difficult to spot. There’s always so many varieties of breads here. From sourdough loafs to Lebanese flat bread. They also have a nice spread of pastries and baked goods like strudels and quiches. The workers here are also very friendly. My favorite has to be the custard donut. The custard donut here is like none I’ve ever eaten before! Personally I love custard and donuts. What more if they’re combined as one! The donut is filled so generously with the custard filling which makes it worth the price. The custard is made with real vanilla pods and is the best I’ve ever eaten. This is definitely a must try! The sourdough and ciabatta breads here are also really fresh and extremely yummy but the mini sourdough English muffins is slightly too tough for my liking. Overall, I really like this place!

I am always a big fan of breads for how convenient it is to feed yourself with them when you’re tired and hungry. Apart from Tommy le Baker, which I have reviewed, this bakery which is in the Ben’s Independent Grocer is one of my favourite spots to grab my bread supplies for the week. Serving a rather wide range of items here, they have from plain breads to sourdough, pastries to cake and even muffins! What I would recommend here is their big big croissant, coconut cake, big big muffins and their baguette. Of course, the other things are nice as well here, but these few are my favourite picks here. Price wise, you might think that it is slightly more expensive than the other bakeries generally, but I think that given the quality of the breads, pastries and cakes here, it’s totally worth the price. They do sell whole cake here as well. But, if you need it for your celebrations, do remember to order in advance to avoid disappointment. What’s good here is that after you finish buying your breads, you can even go to the plan B Roaster which is near the exit of the grocers to have a cuppa joe — life is good eh?

One of the main attractions for me in Ben’s Independent Grocer(Big) is the bakery. Every visit is not complete until I walk to the back and pass this glorious section where I just have to inhale my favorite aroma in the world, fresh dough and butter. Pastries I have tried is the Chocolate Orange Roll and Chocolate Croissant, my other favorites would be the simple yet generous Custard Doughnut(best amongst the chocolate and P&B), Turkish Flat Bread, and the Garlic Focaccia. I have also tried the Danish Loaf to which we made into French Toasts and it was absolutely amazing because of how well it soaks. The selection is plenty and sometimes it drives me nuts as I indecisively stand there and stare at all the golden goodness. My first disappointment to date would be the Seaweed Focaccia because I thought the flavor was a tad bland and too salty. The Cheese Sticks was rather pricy too for a slim stick at RM5 though it was not bad. They also have sandwiches and a section of tables and chairs and rows of magazines(to be purchased), making it a great spot to enjoy your dough while browsing through the latest Hollywood gossips. They have a good variety of freshly baked breads such as Cranberry Sour Dough, Multigrain breads and more for you and your family too.
