G-YiTang Hong Kong Dim Sum

Good dim sum place. Reasonable price. Dim sum is not really greasy. I love their century egg with pork porridge. Cosy restaurant with air conditioning. The dim sum are prepare when ordered so it’s fresh. Parking will be hard to find but I always go early morning.

This placed turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I don’t usually go to restaurants for dim sum unless it’s well-​known for it. Like most dim sum restaurants, they’ve discarded the trolley system and replaced them with a paper that you can put a tick or a number at the dishes that you want to order.
I’ve tried their Ha Gao (crystal skin shrimp), Siew Mai, Chee Cheong Fan, carrot cake, and their Lai Yao Bao (custard bun). I must say that I was contented with the quality of all the dishes served, but particularly impressed with the carrot cake and the custard bun. I honestly could finish a whole plate of carrot cake by myself, it has a slightly spongy texture and the cook was generous with the eggs, Lap Cheong (Chinese sausage), and bean sprouts. The custard bun is must! You know it’s perfection when the custard flows and fills your entire mouth. The flow of the custard is what I look forward to the most when eating dim sum.
The drinks, however, had a different story to it. I found my Yin Yong (coffee mixed with tea) too sweet and much to thick. I thought it tasted a bit off, I think there were much more coffee in it than tea. Next time, I’ll be sure to order their Chinese tea.
The place is fairly comfortable. It is not hot like in coffee shops, but it is not luxurious. They do not have a red cloth over their table, so going in with your T-​shirt and jeans or shorts work just fine.
Oh! Here’s a plus point. The prices are actually reasonable. Maybe just a few cents more expensive than the ones in coffee shops.

My uni mates and I go to this particular dim sum restaurant every time any of us has a craving for it. The fact that it is easily accessible to us is a minor part of the reason we go there. The dim sum is made fresh, not that other places don’t do that but because there are so many customers (mostly on weekends) the food that comes is always fresh. And of course it tastes super yummy. The siew mai and golden bun there is hands down my favourite. I wouldn’t say that this place has the best dim sum but it is definitely one of the better ones. It is located in taipan so do expect difficulty in parking. Unless you are there early in the morning or later at night, there is going to be a lot of cars in the area.

Located in Taipan USJ, G-​YiTang is opposite Starbucks and is opened from 7.30am to 10pm everyday. Unlike most dim sum places, they dont have the usual trolley going around for you to choose from. They have their own menu and patrons can write down their orders on the printed sheet on each table. It certainly takes the pressure of me as I can take my time and order in my own time. Very reasonably priced, this restaurant also does takeaways so you can call ahead and order if you would like to pick up your dim sum on the way home.
Diners have the option of sitting outdoors or indoors in the air-​conditioned area. Be it baked, steamed or fried they have the usual wide variety of dim sum available in most places. Must-​trys are the Fried Carrot Cake and their own homemade bottled herbal tea as a cooling treat on a hot day.
