Yes the beef soup is ligera de oro, liquid gold. I was served by the owner who was indeed, super friendly and spoke english. Had the # 2 paquete with 3 tacos. WOW flank steak to boot. Can’t ask for anything better. 80 pesos including the drink. This gringo is, indeed, living a charmed life down here. Viva Tijuana, Mexico!

Any place that has something called«jugo de carne» is a place I’m going to love. The super famed Brad B knows all things TJ and when he ushered us into a cab and took us to this spot, I was surprised and pleased. This is real deal y’all — open air, rigged up grill, beer from the convenience store next door, a molcajete with cucumbers and limes. That Perrone taco was super awesome. A great start to the padding we’d need for a day of rampaging Mexico. It’s a spot that he learned about from a local and it’s super tasty. It’s not for the un-adventurous or the faint of heart. We didn’t venture outside of the taco he recommended but I’d guess everything is great there. Don’t look too hard at the jumbo tub of mayo sitting out on the table or the kitchen setup. Just order a perrone, some jugo and get into it.

I love going out to eat and trying new places. This was a great discovery. These were awesome arranchera tacos!!! I will definitely come back for more! Maybe once a week. It is a small place but the arranchera tacos makes up for it.

The service is really great here. Everybody is so sweet to provide you with a satisfying experience. I ordered the number 3 which comes with a flour tortilla taco, a corn tortilla taco, soup, and a drink. It was 80 pesos which is about $ 5. The flour tortilla tacos are huge! I loved the cheese that they put in it too. I’ve been to TJ a few times now and while I feel like I’ve had slightly better tacos, I would definitely go hear again. The guacamole wasn’t the best I’ve had, but I would go back just for that flour tortilla taco, horchata and really nice employees.

Venturing south with my buddy and it was absolutely worth it. We started here at Los Perrones and I am glad we did. Never had jugo de carne? Go get some now, even though it was a billion degrees out, that hot cup of soup floored me. Like pozole on steroids it both warmed my soul and made me sweat like a marathoner. Next up the taco. I was expecting the typcial adobada style tacos, too my delight these are nothing like them. These are arrachera(grilled skirt steak) tacos, on flour tortillas to boot. Habanero salsa, guac, beans and cheese. Carlitos is a master, the jugo de carne is liquid gold. Get it before the secret is out.

Hot steaming cups of savory birria stew were placed beneath our gaping maws before we could even sit and order. It’s like they read our minds right when we got out of the taxi(the driver even joined us). Hunched over our fresh kills, we spooned and slurped it down like starved wolves. That’s how good it is. Yer avg. Minnesotan might expect chips n salsa. Not here, pal. Watching the jovial ‘Chef Perrone’ whirl a giant stockpot of birria broth, then ladle the magical elixir over hissing meat on the grill was artful and masterful… the much needed shot of exhilaration to my previously exhausted and troubled brain. It reassured my soul that all is well in good ol’ TJ. To follow were Arrechera tacos con aguacate… dripping with grease and bringing me back to life. Rich, and savory, all you need is one in the fuel tank. Beware the habanero salsa, mi amigo, it’ll keep your adventure postponed a while. Follow that with a dollar tecate and all is right with the world. Bottom line is the service and vibe here is seductively friendly, the kind that will make you fall in love. The food is the bonus. Tip well. Show your love. Embrace your fellow man across the border till it hurts. Open 24 hours, carnal!

I’m throwing down five sexy stars for Los Perrones and another five for our cab driver, Danny. If he had a Unilocal listing of his own I’d post there, but seeing as he is one of thousands of cab drivers in Tijuana, that would prove to be very difficult. Right off the bat I swore that we were getting hustled on my most recent visit to Tj. We all know that old cab driver bait and switch where he says, «where are you going» just before he tells you to go somewhere else where he gets a kickback. I replied, «Tacos El Franc» and he says, «I think it’s closed, ever been to, Perrones?» Oh boy, «nope, they’re open. My buddies already ate there earlier today,(I was lying), just take us to Franc.» Well guess what? Tacos El Franc was indeed closed. I’ll take my crow prepared well-done, sir. We quickly detoured, pulled up to Perrones and invited our taxi driver to join us for some grub. It looks like your typical taco stand and smells like your typical taco, stand but these guys were rocking it! The super friendly self-proclaimed, «Chef Perrone» quickly lined us up with cups of consommé, radish and cucumber trays and two types of bottled salsa. We ordered a few Tecates and were pitched the house special arrachera taco. Sure! If it’s your specialty we’re happy to give it a try. The perfectly seasoned skirt steak was finished on the flat top and thrown into a large tortilla with beans, guacamole, cheese, onions and cilantro. Add a little bit of the orange habanero salsa and you’ve landed yourself a winner! Seriously, so good. One taco is plenty since they go big here. They don’t skimp on the tortillas, the meat or the fillings, but if you need more they are happy to build you a classic al pastor or whatever else you think you’re missing out on. For me, I don’t think I’ll ever go any further than that lovely arrachera!

We were on our way to Tacos el Franc, when someone in our group(ahem, I’m looking at you, Mari) was overtaken by a craving for arrachera tacos. So we ended up at el Franc’s next door neighbor, Los Perrones. Los Perrones is mostly a one-man operation, with Carlitos taking orders and cooking the food. I did see a few other people wandering around, but it wasn’t clear to me what they were up to. My hesitation melted away when Carlitos handed us complimentary cups of bean and onion soup in a rich and satisfying broth. For dinner, I had one of Los Perrones’ famous arrachera tacos(natch) with a big cup of horchata. The taco was absolutely enormous and quite good, but I didn’t think it had as much flavor as an el Franc taco. I made the mistake of trying the accompanying salsas, each of which was an inferno in a bottle. Normally I handle hot sauce just fine, but these were totally out of control in the capsaicin department. Luckily, the cold horchata helped put the fire out and saved my tastebuds. I think there’s a lot more than meets the eye at Los Perrones, since there were piles of wood stacked by the entrance that were being lit while we were biding our time there. I might come back just to see what else Carlitos has up his sleeve.

How I love taxi drivers in TJ, Grasping on to the door for dear life I chose to strike up conversation with our taxi driver who just about went the wrong way on a one way street, almost took out two kids and side swipped a church van. The food thing that came out of this was we found out about tacos los perrones. I asked him where his favorite taco shop was. Without a beat he said perrones because they use arrechera instead of regular carne asada… he had me at arrechera. We had originally planned on going to tacos el Franc which is across the way. I told my friends about this new discovery and being the awesome Unilocalers they are they agreed to something new. When we walked in Carlitos greeted us with a savory broth. We sat at the bar and he recommended perrone tacos and horchata or other agua de la casa(which has refills). Christian was grilling up the meat with a wood fueled grill. Best tasting meat I’ve had in a long time! Thanks boys for the fun pictures and great food!

Una sola vez he comido tacos Los Perrones.
