The perfect little town with a very cute little town center. I love the town square in Tulum. It has everything. On the side of the busiest Av Tulum — which is part of the main 307 connecting Cancun all the way down to Chetumal near the Belize border. Yet the town square never gets too overwhelmed thanks to the fact that this stretch is yet kind of an undiscovered heaven. The square has the main town hall next to it. And the main ground has a very unique monument like sculptures of the Mayan calendar and the signs of the Mayan zodiacs. This is where kids can be seen playing with each other in a small kid zone. Street vendors selling goodies can be seen here and there. And then interspersed with all of these are the tourists on their bikes or walking around taking pictures and then some like me — looking for the next street vendor standing in the hidden corner of a side street making some delicious food. There is even a small astro turf soccer pitch which hosts matches almost every evening except Sunday. And a basketball court. I was — again — in heaven — when I had the opportunity to witness first hand — how the Real Football is embedded deep in the lifeline of almost every country in South America and Europe. But to see the talent I saw on that tiny astro turf — 6 year upward boys practicing like that’s what they live for and showing some stellar moves at that — I can’t wait for Mexico to discover these gems and make a big splash on the international scene continuing what they did in Brazil 2014. This town is so full of life. The quintessential small town with absolutely no signs of crime but on the contrary — people who are so kind and down to earth, they welcome strangers with open arms — without any prejudice of any kind. The food is sublime. The weather is gorgeous. Restaurants and eateries for people with every kind of budget. As long as you know to live life with a free spirit — you will enjoy this simple town which has the tendency to grow on you so easily. I was even lucky to witness the carnival which was scheduled for February 21⁄22 while I was there. Loved the parade. The performances by the young boys and girls on Sunday night on the stage set up for the conclusion — stunned me! There’s a reason they talk about the Latino moves. Just like football — kids know to shake some leg or 2 at a very young age. And they can do so with such finesse and glamor — for hours in a row, with no sign of fatigue. So awesome! I am literally in love with this small little piece of joy on planet earth. Can’t wait to come back!
