Food was excellent. Had the BBQ pork ribs tapa, lamb and pork belly for main. And cheese cake to finish off. The cheese cake was a bit average. But other then that it’s was great. Service is good. Not excellent or over the top just good.

I came here last year and had a wonderful experience so I decided to try again. It seems they might have changed owners or chefs because my spinach and ricotta ravioli was way different from what I remember… The ravioli that was served to me seem like it was from a super market packet… it was hard and stuck together… I couldn’t finish it. On the plus side the dishes came out quickly and they have an extensive wine list. Not sure if I’ll go back again.

So I had dinner with my mates and the food and the service is no good at all! First of all, the waiter smells and we ordered and made us wait for almost an hour. Second, we got our meals and my mate’s steak was rare to raw(she ordered medium rare), my other friend ordered grilled chicken she was given a bland rubbery overcooked meal, and I had an overcooked pork with burnt onion rings and mashed kumara(yes BURNTMASHKUMARA). Third, they insisted my friend, who ordered chicken, to have the same chicken which was already given back to the kitchen! And lastly, we were paying for our drinks and we gave our complaints and we weren’t expecting them to compensate, BUT they didn’t even made any compensation for it! I’ve been to Bolero a couple of times — once just after they opened, and once not long ago. The first time I went there it was really good(and the reason I went back again); not knowing Albany very well I relied on a local to let me know what was good and he assured me Bolero was one of the best places around the suburb. After a disappointing second visit, I’m not sure I would go back again. The first time I went, I had some honey rice balls(which don’t seem to be on the menu anymore) and they were really fantastic; the second time I went I ordered them again and they were bland, so perhaps we hit them on a bad night. They do offer free range meat options though, which is a really good thing. The dining room is pretty stylish, and well laid out. It’s not in the mall itself, so you can pretend you’re not really at a godawful mall, and looks out towards a landscaped area so the outlook is not too bad.

My favourite meals include steak, lamb chops, chicken, fish and pork. Then maybe some duck, prawns, lobster and calamari. Throw in some potatoes, rice, maize, pasta and salads, and you’ve pretty much get the idea. I love food, and this is why I love to eat out at Bolero, the tapas option makes it a real treat to try differing flavours and mini meals. Since I live around the corner in Torbay, the Albany mall is unfortunately a place that I frequent by necessity, rather than want, but at least the mall is home to a few good restaurants; including Bolero. One aspect I can rave about is the seating arrangement outside; this was great during our recent Indian summer, just allowing us to enjoy the late sunsets and drinking our imported wine. Spanish food is highly underrated, and Bolero should be tried out by more patrons, and hopefully they will read this and give them a go, the food is yummy!
