This café is a great pitstop for coffee on your way for work. Located on busy Symonds St, it is easy to walk past(I walked past twice!). They produce a great spicy chai with a real hit to it, which will put a pep in your step. Along with panini’s, scones and muffins on display, there is also a full menu to choice from. The eggs on toasts– poached, scrambled or fried for $ 6 is an absolute steal. As much as I love to be a optimistic, the eggs were a tad disappointing. One of my poached eggs was overcooked and the scrambled eggs were nothing special. However, for the price should I be complaining? Despite this, it will not stop me from returning as the staff were friendly and greeted us with smiles. Another bonus is the free wifi, as it is stronger than the Auckland public wifi and is a great way to past the caffeine wait. Brickhouse might not be 5 stars at everything, but they are trying their darnedest and that needs to acknowledged.

This is a great little gem for catching up with friends or for having the odd coffee or brunch. The price is alright and the food is your typical café and bakery food, but the coffee is great and they have this nicely decorated area inside to sit in. It’s surprisingly larger than expected if you’re looking from the outside but it’s very cute and cosy! I love the atmsphere here and the staff are always friendly. :)

Situated on the walk home from work for me, I often grab a coffee in here if I have a lot planned for the day and immediate sleep isn’t an option for me. My usual choice is the long black, which is strong and hot, just as it should be and for just $ 2.50(Yes, all coffees here are a mere $ 2.50 it’s fab) it’s well worth laying your loose change on the table for. While the cabinet food isn’t that awe inspiring, think pastries and scones etc, if your on the move its a decent enough wee hole in the wall to grab a bite to eat on the run. But definately get a coffee. What else can you spend two bucks fiddy on these days anyway.

Between this place, Starbucks, and Cravern A, Brickhouse wins hands down for coffee(admittedly not much of a feat but still). It is a little bit more in price for the food but it’s nice and so is the building. They do freshly blended juices too that are really yum, fresh juice is actually kind of hard to come by these days(at cafes like this) so it’s a good thing to see, for me, it suggests that they care about quality. This café attracts lots of business types… having important little business meetings and what not, I kind of like that. Gives an atmosphere of «seriousness» or like…“exclusiveness”, but in a good way. If that makes sense?
