Devonport

One of my favourite suburbs– it’s gorgeously quaint with everything you need– a wharf to get you to and fro the city, lovely villas to admire, the newly renovated, high-​class library, North Head and Mount Vic elevated viewpoints, craft market, cafes galore and art galleries abound. They have horse rides and a long shore walk that takes you to the maritime museum lives here as well as the navy on the opposite end. A great park with swings, neat playground and lots of green space to sit down with fish and chips. Just be careful of the traffic since it’s only one road in and out. Otherwise definitely worth a visit and walk around

Beautiful. Devonport is one of Auckland’s gems. It’s so close to the city, yet far enough away to be a world of it’s own. The village is adorable, with great cafes, great shops, a very cool walk up Mt Victoria, an awesome old school movie theatre and of course the stunning views across the water to Auckland CBD. A great afternoon excursion.

So sad I don’t come here nearly as often as I’d like. A beautiful little seaside town, but really apart of Auckland, Devonport boasts lovely antique stores, an exquisite seaside, a huge emporium, North Head Historic Reserve, swanky cafes and a generally all round inviting ambience fit for a king.
I always remember this place as being a good, relaxing time. Parking is a little tricky, but why not take the ferry instead? It’ll add to the all round chill factor of your day. If you’re visiting Auckland and want to spend a day out somewhere nice, Devonport is, hands down, the place to be.

About as nice a suburb that Auckland has to offer. There is a certain quality that remains consistent through Devonport’s natural landscape, housing architecture, local merchants, and landscaped public areas. Everything is clean, it is safe, the restaurants serve good food, and the residents present their houses with well established gardens. The ferry access across to the CBD affirms its maritime image — it is a nicer place across the water.
Once annually near the end of summer, Devonport holds a food and wine festival. They set up a whole lot of public tables, there are representatives of different food companies and wineries which you can sample, and they have some live music acts. Great fun.

I have to say even though its a little hard to get to Devonport is still a favourite spot of mine, I think it has a lot of good things about it.
You can either drive here or you can catch the ferry from the city which is a nice quick ferry ride.
There are many good cafes and restaurants you can eat at here for either breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner. There are also a couple of Pubs for a few drinks later in the night, some of the restaurants also have live music. If you prefer to get something to take away and sit closer to the sea then there are options for that also — there is a great fish and chip shop here.
The playground is great and has lovely views to the city and harbour. There are also many different shops here, so its great for tourists and those coming in from out of town as well.

Devonport is pretty amazing. Having had it as a local neighbourhood my whole life, I’ve often forgotten just how great it is. But it is still one of my first recommendations when out of towners ask where to visit.
There is one road in and one road out, which while not good in peak traffic times, really makes it feel like it’s own little township. It is, after all, situated on it’s very own peninsula.
As soon as you drive into Devo, you feel relaxed. With a small but quality selection of bars, restaurants and shops, it has everything you need and nothing you don’t.
It is surrounded by beautiful beaches and stunning views. There are heaps of places to play and walk and number of beautiful big parks.
The houses make Devonport what it is. Amazing restored villas fill the little town, perfectly manicure gardens and kids running around laughing. It sounds like Wisteria Lane and that isn’t far off.
It is one of the most expensive places to live in Auckland, but it’s free to visit!
Take a picnic, swim in the sea, and head up North Head to watch the sunset over Auckland city.

A charming neighbourhood on the north shore, it is accessible by car or by ferry from downtown Auckland. When you visit here on a sunny Sunday, you feel you have left the rat race behind. With its second hand bookstores and pubs, I often think Devonport is like a little town you would find in England. After browsing in the said bookstores, you could have some food and drink at the Patriot pub. You can sit out the front and watch the locals walk their dogs and stroll by. There’s some lovely gift stores too with some unusual and quirky gifts for the woman in your life. Devonport has a great view of Auckland and you can sit here with an ice cream and chill out to the sound of the water. Devonport also has a literary vibe and if I was a famous writer, I’d live here tomorrow.
