It is so hard for to find t-shirts which fit me properly, so when I do find a shop caters to my skeletal frame I become a very good customer indeed. Monster Threads is such a shop. I really like their prints, just abstract designs which have no relevance or meaning — I’m not out to make a political statement with my t-shirt you know? I just want something random that fits well. Super helpful staff, they can easily order in any combination of size and design which they might not currently have in stock.

I first come across this label when I was freezing at Rhythm and Vines one year so I purchased a sweater from their stall.
I have gotten a lot of wear out of it, I love the bright coral colour and its cute animals in a tree design.
Now that I live in Auckland, I have discovered their shop on K Rd. Full of their clothing and also amazing, fun jewellery (at a variety of prices), plenty of cool stuff for your home, and in general a great gift store.
The staff are friendly and on one visit I had a nice conversation with the staff member who had a Chewbacca ring — it was pretty amazing and probably the best conversation starter ever (and I think they had it for sale).
Monster Threads is a unique shop and is definitely worth a browse, if you are up that end of town.

When I write my birthday wishlist this year (yeah, I’m kind of a control freak like that), I’m pretty sure everything on it is going to be from Monster Threads. I just can’t decide what I want more: the raincloud necklace, the one with the astronauts on it or one of the many awesome printed t-shirts.
I love everything in this shop, it’s obvious that the store owner thinks carefully about who their customer is and only buys in the best stuff. If you don’t like shopping on the high street, where you just end up buying all the same stuff as everyone else, this is definitely the place to come.
It’s all pretty good value too, with the t-shirts priced at around $ 45 and the super-cool necklaces starting at $ 30. They also have loads of quirky home-wares such as cheese-slicers shaped like faces (much cooler than they sound!), bottle openers, cushions… I could go on.
Don’t worry, my birthday’s not til the end of July so you’ve got plenty of time to decide on something…

If your a fan of cutesy printed animal t shirts then you may not want to tell your bank account your heading to monster threads. Having a good wander down k road on the weekend I happened across this store and ventured in, not exactly sure what I would find, (that is the awesome thing about being a shopping trepid explorer) that moment before you cross the threshold into a store with absolutely no expectations and you find something awesome.
As well as printed cool stuff, they also have fabulous jewelry. I love love love the gold mix tape necklace! Cool prints of like cats and owls and stuff, and the cutest individually painted plates ever, which I am so going back to buy.

First point of call is to give a big shout-out to the awesome woman in customer service at Monster Threads. This super-friendly redhead is happy to wander around and talk to the customers without being pushy and is genuinely interested to know about their day. She also has a massive tattoo of John Waters, which fills me with happiness, joy and jealousy. Nice work on the staffing choices, Monster Threads.
Over the summer, this place had a range of stuff with an image of a ridiculous looking bear wearing glasses, a top hat and a sweater. It’s about the most hipster thing I’ve ever seen in my life, but it made a visiting friend from the states so happy that she bought a whole bunch of sweater bear items. Hipster bear is swishing his way around NYC these days, making my yank friend very happy.

Monsterthreads is such a funky shop. Case in point, you can sign up to their email list in-store on their old typewriter. Cute.
I love shopping in here because the staff leave you to browse without harassing you to buy stuff. Bright and airy, it’s filled with nice quality t-shirts featuring original illustrations. Think along the lines of
tees, but better quality and smaller print runs.
There’s also more than t-shirts here — I picked up an adorable Alice in Wonderland drawing pin set (and was nearly seduced by the bunny-shaped paper clips too). They also sell absolutely adorable vintage fabric dresses for little girls, and a selection of fun jewellery, modern tableware (think retro kitsch and melamine), and a range of cutesy little gift things, like purses and pencil cases.
