Back in the day, this place was known simply as ‘Real Pies’. This was highly apt — the pies here were indeed real, and god they were good! Many a summer day as a little boy was spent gouging down a pie, following it up with some generous scoops of ice cream, and then going for a swim and a play on the excellent playground. Years later, it got taken over by Jesters and I didn’t return for years — I can get Jesters anywhere — they’re not the Real Pies I remember from when I was 6 or 7. Thankfully a couple of years back it went back to making ‘Real Pies’ under the Narrow Neck Beach Café name, and they’re as good as I remember them — big, nice and flakey, hearty as. It also does great coffee and other assorted café treats. The outdoor area is a perfect wee beachfront spot where it’s possible to while away a whole afternoon in the wicker chairs.

Woof, woof, woof, yes this café is very doggy friendly and the dogs I have met here have always been rather friendly, they also have a doggy cage for your beloved dog. And they are also child friendly and have a play pen with all sorts of toys for them to play with, high chair also available. They sell cakes, muffins, pies, sandwiches and also freshly made food like omelettes, toasties, chips, as well as coffee, hot and cold drinks. I ordered a delicous feijoa frappé and omelette which was also very good. They also have a range of ice-creams just great for that hot summer day next to the beach. While they are situated right next to the beach, they don’t have a view of the beach(the boat club blocks the view), but its only just a few steps away, so you can get your takeaway coffee or cold drink and enjoy it on the beach instead.
