I visited Playhouse Theatre on Auckland Music School 2013 concert. A lot of children played such instruments as piano, violin, guitar etc. It was really fun and enjoying experience to watch. The youngest of «players» was a little girl of 4 with angel wings at the back of her dress! Cute! The acoustic is good, and the seats are comfy as well. I had no discomfort for seating there for more than 2 hours. The smell from the seats and interior is not very pleasant, but it is common among all the playhouses and theatres.

I used to go here when I was much younger to do productions or just audition for productions. It is a great space for all those performers and creative people out there in Auckland. You can go there to perform in one of the many great local shows on offer, or just to go and be a member of the audience. You can also just hire costumes from the little building out the back. There is quite a great selection of costumes, a major collection of period drama costumes, but I remember it could get a little bit expensive, which isn’t that great. The auditorium room is pretty impressive. It is still in its original form from what I remember, and it really suits the space. Nothing to modern or fancy, just a decent theatre play house for local productions.

I haven’t been here since I was a kid but I always loved coming here to see plays and productions. We used to hire costumes from here too for dress up parties and our own school productions. The people who worked there were always nice and friendly and I remember wanting to come here all the time. They host a variety of professional shows and it’s the only theatre like it I can think of in the Glen Eden, West Auckland area. I remember my mum hiring quite a daring costume from here when I was younger, and the costume was fantastic, and it definitely would have been an affordable hire.

Of course I am bias when I say my favourite theatre productions are the ones my children perform in. Fostering all young budding thespians is Glen Eden Playhouse theatre, once a year they do a children’s production which is well worthwhile the visit even if you are not a parent or relative. Their three major shows last year were Are You Being Served!, Carousel and Oliver; planned productions for this current year, 2013, include Brassed Off, the musical Chicago and the children’s show Suessical, The Musical. You can hire fancy dress costumes from the theatre and they also host a number of other shows throughout their calendar year. One memorable show was comedian Ewen Gilmour a few years back.
