Skycity Theatre

This is a modern and versatile space, equipped with all the necessary mod cons to attract some great shows to our city. The theatre is located on Level 3 of the Auckland Sky Tower and has several access points. Don’t make the mistake of parking at the Sky City car park though — the pricing is too ridiculous to justify its convenience!
The bar, located in the theatre foyer provides a nice wee space to convene over a G&T, either before or during the interval.
I’ll leave you to sit back and take in a show but be warned of the greedy pokie machines and their plot to takeover the space! Luckily, it was a plot that didn’t hang-​together and for that, it deserves a big round of hearty applause from all us theatre-​goers!

I have been to a couple of shows here lately and they were great! One was Hairspray so that was bound to be a winner and the other was a film fest movie which was a goodie too. Can be difficult to find in the Skytower if you don’t know where you are going but once you find it you will be greatest by friendly staff and an array of snacks and drinks to choose from. Seats are super comfy so I almost fall asleep!

I have been to sky city a few times (mostly to shows) and it is always a good time. The theatre is the perfect size for an event (I have seen a magic show, comedy and Hairspray the musical) its in a great location central to the city and the restaurants around Federal Street are really good — I have not eaten in Sky City so I can’t say what their restaurants are like. If you’re going for a show I would recommend Depot or Belotta for drinks before hand.

It’s a maze to get there but once you do I think it is one of the best theatres in Auckland. Just the right size, just the right incline between rows, a HUUUUGE stage and comfy seats. The only downfall is that they only have pre-​packaged popcorn — not such an issue if you are going to a play but if you are going to a movie, such a disappointment!
Also their water comes out of those pre-​mix soda stream taps and tastes rank.
