I have been to Wooden Board Kitchen twice now, and on both occasions it was with a voucher for a three course meal deal. This latest visit was with a $ 135 GrabOne Voucher for a Three-Course Dining Experience for six people. I don’t know if you can really beat that value, regardless of what the food tastes like! It’s a reasonably limited set menu, which I found fine, because the selection of available dishes all tasted pretty good and were very fulfilling. For my entrée, I had crispy salt & pepper squid served with lemon & tartare sauce, which was crispy and not too salty. For my main, I had the market fish with grilled sweet corn succotash, seasonal greens and salsa. Fish can sometimes be a hit and miss, but the different flavours provided by the accompaniments in the dish meant that this one was quite flavoursome. I did find the fish a little too moist though. For dessert, there was only one option available, and that was the spiced apple crumble served with vanilla ice cream. A very simple dish, however still tasted good nonetheless. Service was good, which can sometimes be a hit and miss with most restaurants that offer vouchers(don’t know why, they’re the ones putting them online). The restaurant is quite dark and has a bit of a dingy feeling to it(which goes hand in hand with its location!), and the candles weren’t lit on our table, so I asked the server to do this for us — which she obliged. Overall, a good night out!

Came here for dinner tonight on my first night in Auckland. There were a few hiccups in my dining experience but overall the food was delicious. The menu items were unique and flavorful. I would definitely consider coming back. Hopefully they get a better beer selection by the next time I come.

We showed up at 8pm, and the sign said it closed at 9:30pm. Plenty of time for dinner! Yet when we walked in, the woman said they were closing because it had been slow. Maybe I’m just being too American, but that’s pretty awful business practice.

This is our 3rd time here for 3 course meal. I must say their they haven’t been consistent with the quality of food. It’s not as good as it use to be. The entrée of scallop and beef cheek roti is fine, however the main has really let us down! Both the pork and lamb are quite dry and we couldn’t finish it. Dessert is nice especially the pudding with a beautiful toffee sauce. But I think we won’t come back for a while now. There are more inspiring food place around these days now…

Unexpectedly beautiful meal. Lamb shoulder was succulent and flavorful and the price was incredibly reasonable. The service was not ideal, however. When our plates were cleared, we were offered dessert and left alone for half an hour with an empty water bottle when we declined. However, I would go there again and recommend it to others. YUM!

Buttermilk fried chicken entrée was to die for. Crispy, juicy and fresh with excellent homemade aoili, fresh lemon and rocket. The Rotolo is delicious, with a simple lemon dressed rocket salad. Kumara chips are crispy and delicious with onion dip. Setting is quiet, cute and romantic. Good service and the food came out quickly. So delicious, can’t wait to go back as the rest of the menu looks good also. Great flavors, fresh food, reasonable prices, no waiting. A hidden gem.

Delicious! We were a big group of ten and my brother had called earlier to provide the restaurant with a heads up, including our orders. Anto, the chef, did a splendid job. I had the lamb shoulder and warm lava chocolate cake for dessert — both done to perfection. Would definitely visit again, check our their weekly specials!

This place is an absolute gem. Such a cute little establishment. The food can only be described as delicious. The seafood starter was so fresh, sweet and melted in your mouth. Followed by the slow roasted pork and lamb mains that were so succulent and tasty. I would definitely come here again as the atmosphere, food and staff were phenomenal.

Wooden Board was a total surprise to me and I am very impressed with with cute little restaurant just down from K Rd on Upper Queenstreet. Quaint and small, the ambiance was great, and I loved the recipes hanging on the walls and even in the bathroom. The most important thing however, is the food. The seafood starter was so fresh, hot and came out quickly. Our two mains, the pork and lamb, were melt in your mouth, perfect and delicious with amazing sides(the kumara gnocchi was a particular fav with the pork) and they were also large! At only $ 24 a piece, you’d expect to be paying in the mid 30s for something of similar quality in a more fine dining setting. I was very impressed. I will defiantly be coming back and highly recommend if you’re looking for a cute, more casual dining setting with fine food at not so fine dining prices! 5 stars

We went in with a groupon. Food was pretty good. But the location was a bit random, and the pictures of the place looked way better on the groupon site, then the reality. And I thought the point was that food gets served on wooden boards??? But there weren’t any.

This place is great for lunch specials. The fried buttermilk chicken is probably the only good fried chicken in the city. Coming from southern US culture that’s high praise indeed. Also love their wee outdoor seating area. Lovely for a little uncrowded personwatching. Good prices, good food, try them out.

Well, I can’t actually give a review on the food, as the guy working there said they were closing early as it was a slow night… huh?!(at 9:10pm when closing time is 10:00pm), which was really disappointing as we had just walked 2 km from our hotel as quick as we could after reading the previous reviews. The review is reflective of the service, not the food. However the couple that were leaving said it was really good.

Three friends and I tried the Wooden Board Kitchen one Thursday evening. We had purchased two deal vouchers off Groupon. None of us had actually heard of the place, considering it is located on Upper Queen Street just off K’Road. Each voucher was for two people and included a shared entrée, two mains, two desserts and a glass of wine or beer per person. It sounded like a pretty good deal to me! The restaurant itself had a nice and cosy feel to it, but it felt like you were just having dinner at a friend’s flat. It was missing that restaurant feel. We first started with entrées — Pan Seared Scallops and the Braised Beef Cheeks. I did not try the beef cheeks because I am not a fan of them, but the scallops had a really nice flavour. For mains, two of us ordered the Lemon Thyme Chicken with potato gratin and green beans. Nice looking dish and tasted great. My other dining companions ordered the Spaghetti al Pesto with prawns. However, there were very few prawns, so basically just a plate of spaghetti! I was really excited about dessert because it is my favourite meal of the day! Three of us ordered the Sticky Date Pudding. While it came with caramel sauce and ice cream, I was disappointed by it. Quite dry and not enough sauce and ice cream! Our other friend ordered that because apparently it tasted delicious. The friend who ordered it is another dessert fanatic, so I trust her word! The service was okay, but I would not rave about it. They only had one waiter on! As the restaurant started filling up, this became a problem. We waited AGES for our meals. I had to ask several times when each meal was coming because it was getting really frustrating! Overall, the food was good, but kind of like the normal fare, you could cook at home. I would possibly go back to try that special chocolate dessert but other than that I would only try the rest of the menu if another deal voucher arose.

Wooden Board Kitchen is in a bit of an awkward location but their Monday special(2 courses for $ 25) and the fact they are BYO was enough to lure us out on a wet & windy evening. In an effort to sample more of the menu we shared entrées and mains. To start we had the beef cheeks, which were meltingly tender and the potato cake, which conversely was stodgy and lacked flavour. For our mains we took Unilocalers advice and ordered the lamb shoulder as well as the lemon and thyme chicken. The lamb shoulder was definitely the highlight, slow braised and served with a spiced pumpkin purée and these delicious little croquettes. Delish! The roast chicken was OK but the sauce was loaded with far too much garlic for our liking. All in all, whilst the dishes were a bit hit & miss, it’s great value for money and I love the fact that they are BYO!

Went there for dinner on Easter Sunday and we were very happy with that decision. Great ambiance, affordable and quite yummy food. Only minor complaint was that there was only one waiter that night(albeit the place is quite small) which meant we had to keep calling for him. Overall it was a great experience for me and my husband and we hope to bring a bigger group with us next time!

Great food and a nice place to be. The slow roast lamb was tasty and moist. My mistress that night had the pork. She enjoyed it but would like to have had a few more vegetables. Was a bit noisy but was a Friday night and full. Would not have got in without a booking.

Love this place. The food is always excellent! My advice would be to go with friends and get a bunch of small dishes to share. Can’t really go wrong with anything on their menu.

This quiet little joint is downstairs and just on the other side of K-Road on upper-queen street. The interior is casual and tidy with a slight Asian flare in the décor. In addition to individual tables there are also some bench tables which would be ideal for a larger group or you could even share with others when it’s crowded. I’m told they get quite busy, but it was empty when we ate there as it was just before Christmas when Auckland is pretty empty. The food selection is a mixture of small plates and mains with a menu that rotates pretty frequently. Some good choices for vegetarian options and the corn balls were delicious as was the the terriyaki chicken tenders on a bed of greens. The prices are fair, the service was polite and timely and I will definitely be coming back here again!

This understated spot is easy to miss but should not be missed! The service is friendly, quick and accommodating. There are some nice touches including the cider that was ordered was served on a wooden board with a ice bucket that the cider was sitting in. Perfect in summer! I have frequented this spot quite a few times and every time have enjoyed the food immensely. So far my favourite has been the lamb shoulder– melt in your mouth with a lovely flavour. There are also great starters and I would recommend trying a few as it is such good value for money. Most mains are about $ 20 and considering the quality of food is fantastic value for money. They also do BYO!
