Dappermarkt

Dappermarkt is another one of Amsterdam’s flea market. It’s probably about half the size of Albert Cuypmarkt with half the variety. But the one thing I saw here that I didn’t see at Albert’s was kibelling (fried fish). They also have fried shrimp, and fried squid. While the market in general has limited options, I would say that it’s definitely worth checking out, just for the fried seafood.

Dirt cheap fresh produce — the quality is often questionable but I have walked out of here with a backbreaking amount of fruits and veggies for just 5 euros!
The unique thing about this market are the guys unloading huge baskets of random things for 1 euro — I’m talking about pounds of tomatoes for just 1 euro! I mean sure, when I got home, a few of them were beyond saving but the amount remaining was still plenty. If you buy anything from these stands, some of the guys will be nice enough to give you one or two things for free (who needs a whole basket of jalapenos? speaking of which, this is the ONLY place I’ve found fresh jalapenos in Amsterdam!)
So in terms of the food vs. useless stuff ratio of the stands at Dappermarkt, I’d give this a ⁶⁰⁄₄₀ — not bad!

One of the oldest street markets in Amsterdam, a tiny version of Albert Cuyp without the loads of tourists. You’ll find anything from clothes to local produce, and very very cheap. Indeed if you have only € 5 in your pocket you can shop for a lot of stuff.
The fritjes stand, in my opinion, is THE BEST from Amsterdam. They’re crisp outside and soft inside, not soggy at all. I even think it’s better than the acclaimed Mannekin Pis’ fries. So give it a try! If you’re feeling brave, get the Patatjes Oorlog (fries with loads of mayo, saté sauce and finely chopped onions). A plain old fritjes met mayo goes a long way as well!
The doner stand at the end of the market (or beginning, depending on where you’re coming from) is also a great fhot food option. It’s always quite busy, especially on Saturdays.
Fancy some bread? Go to Dimitri’s Brood en Banket. Great breads, and nice service. Dimitri himself is very helpful and friendly (in a very dutch way).
Dappermarkt also has special editions, usually on Sundays, where you can find different stands (once there was a french crepes stand, I’ll never forget that amazing day! haha). Google a bit before visiting to know if there’s something special coming up.

If you want amazing fish, bread, cheese, vegetables, flowers or simply a snack, this is the place to go.
You can buy pretty much anything and walk around enjoying a big Stroop Waffle while looking at the different kind of stands in it.

You have 5 Euros in change in your pocket and need fresh ingredients for dinner… where do you go? We showed up with literally just some coins in our pocket and somehow left with fruits, vegetables, and fries. The produce is SO cheap! It’s not the best quality, but reasonable and for those prices… who can complain? I remember getting 2 good sized butternut squash for 90 cents!

Anything and everything. They have a lot of vendors selling different things. Very cheap!

Dappermarkt has grocery stands, hot food stalls, clothing, make up, electronics and some stuff for the home. Some of the stands are definitely not worth the money though, especially the clothing. It all smells pretty badly and I’ve purchased some things (like leggings) that smell even after a good washing.
Dappermarkt is good for groceries though because there is a wider selection of produce and it’s all lower priced than the stuff at Albert Heijn.
I’ve also purchased speakers from the electronics guy and surprisingly he replaced my pair after it turned out they were defunct.
The real gem of Dappermarkt is the kebab stall, which sells some of the best kebab in the city. It’s the first stall on the ride hand side when you enter the market from the brewery side.

I love this market! It’s one of the best markets in Holland. I first starting coming here with the international students from the University of Amsterdam. We thought it was an ideal place to buy low-​cost fruits and vegetables. I was amazed by the amount of stands that sold a wide range of products.
The market is a reflection of the diversity in the community. It attracts visitors from all over the world. I believe Dappermarkt is one of the most oldest and interesting markets in Amsterdam to visit. The market is located east of Amsterdam. There is so much to do in this open community. If you really want to explore everything that this wonderful community has to offer, then plan on spending a day here. A few tips to get started with.

Great place to get the essentials. including socks that make your feet really stinky. But not all the time. Only when you put it in shoes.

I believe this is the largest market in Amsterdam, and it’s definitely the most fun to wander around!
It’s also a street-​food lover’s paradise — they have plenty of donors and durums, but they also have great Vietnamese lumpias (crispy spring rolls), amazing fried fish nuggets and fillets (my personal favorites) and even chicken wings and drumsticks. The Northern side has mostly clothes while the Southern side has mostly food, cheese shops, fish stands, etc.
Found some amazing deals on clothes here — you’ll find plenty of vendors here whose English isn’t the best, so just look around for prices.
My fiancée tells me that they’re prices for women’s shoes are pretty amazing too.

Da dieser Markt etwas außerhalb vom Zentrum liegt, ist es hier ruhiger und weniger überfüllt als auf dem bekannten Albert Cuyp Markt. Vor allem gibts es weniger Touristen und damit auch keine Souvenir-​Stände oder ähnliches. Alles in allem herrscht eine sehr entspannte Atmosphäre. Auf dem Dappermarkt gibt es Käse, Blumen, Backwaren, Obst, Fisch und Fleisch, Süßes, Bekleidung und Drogerieartikel — und das jeden Tag (außer Sonntags). Man sollte ruhig ein bisschen Zeit mitbringen, dann kann man ein paar interessante Produkte entdecken.
