Mirror Mirror

My usual hairdresser is in Amstelveen and I was looking for a closer alternative when I found Mirror Mirror. I made an appointment and had my haircut with Alex.
Usually I’m very nervous at hair salons, but Alex was very calming. I was growing out a bob and there was quite a bit of trouble explaining what I wanted, even though I brought photos. In the end, my haircut wasn’t quite what I wanted. I expressed my concern regarding my bangs and he said that it takes some time to understand a client’s hair, and that it would be better next time. Ahhhhh… basically, he doesn’t have much experience with cutting Asian hair.
Once I got home, I noticed quite a few stray hairs that weren’t cut and are significantly longer than the rest. It was sloppily done and for 38 euros, I expected better.

It has been a month since my haircut, and it is looking much better. I’m not sure if it was an issue of communication or lack of experience, but sadly I will not be going back.

Finally. Finally. Finally.
It has only taken me two years, but I have done it.
I have found my hairdresser in Amsterdam. After trying Kinky Kappers (attitude problem) once, going to Toni & Guy for about a year (good, but just not ‘it’), I decided to give Mirror and Mirror as go. My sis in law recommended it, it is down the block from where I live, and about € 20 cheaper than Toni and Guy. What could go wrong?
Nothing. I made an appointment with Kirsten. Showed up, and left with one of the best hair cuts I have had in over two years.
My take on hair is that when you get your hair done you shouldn’t just like it, you should love it. A new haircut should emphasize your natural beauty, personality, and make you think, ‘yes, this is me. and I am awesome.’ Essentially, I haven’t had that feeling in a while, but Kirsten did such an amazing job I left feeling like a million bucks.
Plus, the shop itself is just cool, low key, nicely decorated. Like you feel you are at a friends apartment, not a hoity-​toity place that is stiff. The music selection was also top notch, it’s just a nice vibe being there. Kirsten and I exchanged notes on yoga studios in AMS. Alex, the other half of mirror mirror seems also equally cool. He was cutting a woman’s hair and when she left I loved her hair, it looked great on her and she looked super hip.
These are hair dresses that are very talented, listen to what you want and are looking for, have years of experience and believe in giving great haircuts without breaking the bank.
I don’t think I’ll be going anywhere else to get my hair done in AMS, and that is really a relief!
