Pathé Tuschinski

This is one of the most ornamented and beautiful Pathé theaters in Amsterdam. Not only is it pretty, it is also the home for most of the movie premier openings that Amsterdam experiences. Some of the biggest starts come to Amsterdam and have their opening night here… red carpet style, of course.
Not only is it prestigious but it’s biggest movie hall is reminiscent of the grand hall opera/​concert halls of years ago. With mezzanine seating, bucket seats and all. The atmosphere in this hall is absolutely breathtaking. I manage a movie meetup group and I always try to book our movie nights in this hall because it just set the perfect tone.
This theatre is also steps away from Rembrandt square so you can continue your night with some after drinks at one of the many great bars in the area.
This theater though looks small from the outside is an absolute gem inside… a must see!

Such a classy 1920s movie theater. Glitzy Art Nouveau /​Art Deco style. I was surprised to see Egyptian pharaohs. The lobby is free to visit.

Oh my god, this place is Classy with a capital C. Even though the interior is so ornate and beautiful, they still sell your common movie theater snacks like popcorn here. However the popcorn options are not butter or extra butter, instead they are sweet or salty. You can ask them to mix the two together for a poor man’s Garrett’s popcorn experience, but the advantage here is you won’t have buttery goo all over your fingers afterwards. I suggest getting a small if it’s just for you, and a medium if you are sharing it with another person.
To add to the class factor they serve alcohol here, so you can get drunk, but on classy booze like champagne and some weird liqueurs I’ve never heard of. No Papst Blue Ribbon for you, no sir.
The theater seating is great. The chair backs are high, the fabric is velvety, and when the theater is mostly empty there is lots of space to stretch out in all directions. The best part is the culture here makes it so that nobody is talking on their cell phones during the movie, so you can actually enjoy the movie instead of debating whether or not you should punch someone in the throat.

Pathé Tuschinski is probably one of the most magnificently beautiful theater in the world, no exaggeration. I’m in love with every single intricate detail of this building, it’s really breathtaking with it’s mix of Art Deco and Art Nouveau. Even if you don’t go watch a movie there (which comes highly recommended) but if there is no time, at least take a look inside this gorgeous theater, it’s absolutely worth it!

Good variety of movies however very hot theaters with little arm rest room, uncomfortable seats, and no ventilation, Unergonomic seating, the cup holder was badly located at the back of front seat of U rather than by the arm rest, popcorn is a no go, bring ur own ! :(

Cet ancien théâtre devenu un cinéma Pathé vaut vraiment le détour, même si vous n’allez pas voir de film. Décrit comme «le plus beau cinéma d’Europe», la façade et le hall sont déjà un véritable spectacle avec une architecture monumentale et pleine de détails. Malheureusement, nous n’avons pas pu voir la grande salle car les visites né se font que le matin jusqu’à 11h. La salle semble pourtant grandiose, difficile de s’imaginer regarder un blockbuster américain dans cette atmosphère. Pourtant bien que le quartier soit touristique, les prix sont corrects.

If you have the chance, visit this theatre over any other. Every time I’m there it makes me want to check the Internet for the best movie theaters in the world. This has to be one of them!
The history behind the theater is that it was built in 1921 by a Polish/​Jewish immigrant named Abraham Tuschinski. During World War II the name was changed briefly so that it would not be destroyed and then changed back after the war. The interior annexed terrier for that matter are a mix of different styles, mostly due to various renovations and changes over the years.
When you first enter the theater you come into a grand hall with elaborate carpets and massive multicolored lights. It’s a really unique lobby and sort of takes you back in time while also giving a bit of modern flair. If you have the opportunity make your booking for the grand hall. It’s is actually a live stage at times but also has a massive screen. As a added bonus to this hall (not that you need it) you can get seats in the VIP area. For just a few euros extra this includes a drink and a snack as well as more comfortable seats in the upper balcony. Each time I go there I try my best to get these seats.

I love the old vibe and details both on the exterior and interior. It gives the movie going experience a touch of specialness because of the venue! It’s slightly more expensive than the Pathe around the corner, but then again, you get to be inside an interesting and old building! The seats are comfortable and the screens/​sounds were fine too.

Pathé Tuschinski is the coolest cinema in The Netherlands, and possibly in the world (a bit of chauvinism is OK here ;)). The theatre opened in 1921, and in recent year it has been restored to its former glory. Imagine yourself being thrown back to the roaring 20’s when you enter the foyer, where someone in livery announces the next movie.
The main auditorium is built like an old fashioned theatre, with a lot of ambiance. It is actually a surprise when you view a modern day movie in this ambiance. almost like being a time traveler. Watching classic movies here is a bonus, so be on the lookout for those.

What a venue! I went to a movie in the main theatre hall (#1). The architecture alone is as fascinating as the movies you go to watch (hopefully). Much more interesting than your run-​of-​the-​mill movie theatre.
The concession has a decent selection including Magnum ice cream. The seats are super comfortable but you do tend to sink a little into them. I’m not sure that there is a bad seat in the theatre. If I do come back, it’d be cool to watch from the balcony just to see what that’s like.
–1 for the awkward process of ticket purchase: I bought my ticket through the Pathe mobile app and so had a QR code which I thought would be scanned on my way in. But when I showed up to the theatre, I presented my phone to the gentleman to scan only to be directed to the concession for them to scan and print me a ticket (!!!).

This is the most beautiful cinema I have ever been to. In Amsterdam and just anywhere. It is a must visit and also a fun way to spend an evening watching one of the many movies that show here. The building is completely in Art-​Deco style, inside and out. It is absolutely beautiful! The biggest blockbusters show in Zaal 1, the biggest room with the biggest screen. Here you can see that Tuschinski was once a theatre; the stage, the velvet red seats, the balconies and the beautiful ceiling.
Prices are the same as in the other cinemas in the city so why not choose the most beautiful one? They also show foreign, arthouse and film festival movies who are called PACT movies in the programme.
Prices for food/​drinks are quite high so I advise you to get your food/​drink at the AH-​to-​go or Jamin next to the cinema en hide them for the cinema staff ;) That will be a lot cheaper.

Outstanding example of Art Deco inside and out. There is a huge main theater and peripheral smaller theaters within the building.
Went to see the film Hannah Arendt and was told it was mostly in English with a bit of German thrown in (Dutch sub titles, of course). In actuality, it was mostly in German with a smattering of English. I left after one hour but plan to see the film in Tucson. It looked interesting…
Ergonomically correct, comfortable seats. I don’t know if this is typical, but the audience was respectfully very quiet… you do not even hear any popcorn chewing.

Gorgeous and comfortable seating finishes this Art Deco period theatre. Just watching any movie becomes a trip into past with style and class. Seating is assigned when you buy your ticket. If visiting Amsterdam and time allows this is the theatre to choose. We want to go back.

Really cute Art Nouveau cinema. Take the chance to sit on the balkony of Saal No. 1 it worthy it.

A very traditional cinema near the Rembrandtsplein from the beginning of the last century. It is a really nice and memorably building with the two towers and the interesting façade. If you have the chance, watch a movie from the balcony of the big hall (Zaal 1). It is a great experience.

Ich habe da im Juni 2012 zwei Mal Prometheus gesehen.
Das Kino ist wirklich sehr hübsch und Cineasten sehr zu empfehlen.
Was mich allerdings gestört hat war die Geometrie des Vorführsaals 2 im Schukarton-​Style, ich sass da doch ganz schön weit von der Leinwand weg.
Gerne wäre ich im Saal 1 gewesen. Dort gibt es Separees mit eigener Bedienung.

Classic 1920s art deco movie theatre. Part of the cineplex chain Pathe. Programming consists of mostly blockbusters, but they do make space for special events (like IDFA among others) and some art house programming. Screen #1 is the main hall with lavish decorations that have been restored in recent years. An Amsterdam classic, this place.

Was für ein Filmpalast! Programm ist ganz gewöhnlicher Mainstream, aber da wir hier in Holland sind, ist ja alles Originalsprache. Wenn man sich also mal bei einem Amsterdambesuch mit einem Kinoabend die Zeit vertreiben will, sollte man dieses Gebäude bestaunen gehen.

I went here Saturday evening to watch Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris. The theater is very old and is celebrating its 90^th year in business. I have no clue what the style of architecture or the décor is, but it very unique and grand. The tickets can either be bought at the bar or through a ticket window, or you can pick up your online order through a kiosk. The bar serves up all kinds of drinks and snacks and all the staff were friendly. The theater that I watched the movie in was very large and airy and the seats were very big and comfortable. I found it odd that seats were assigned, but it was my first movie in NL, so maybe it’s common practice. I would completely recommend catching an movie here. The place is unique, clean and big.

Tuschinski… what can I say about this stunning Art Nouveau theater? Built in 1921 (very high tech at it’s time) it still is the most well known Dutch movie theater. This place breathes history. it’s like being in the movies yourself. I don’t often go to the movies but if I do I first check if I can see it in Tuschinski. If you are into Art Nouveau like me, then you are going to love Pathé Tuschinski. The façade is fabulous and chic and the interior is spectacular. Truly an amazing work of expressionist beauty.
I’m such a fan of historic buildings anyway since they don’t make them anymore.
When you enter the lobby, you’ll almost feel like you’ve been transported back in time. I supposed it was built that way to create an illusion to distort your present reality.
So much detail and effort are put into the work that I can’t help, but stand there in awe. Black Swan and other foreign art films are currently showing here and was tempted to see one, but there’s still so much to explore in the city.
I was told that movies here are shown in its original form with Dutch subtitles. It’s also kind of expensive and cost as much as a museum, but I did get a chance to see the interior of the lobby.
Be sure to check this Art Deco theater if you are in the area and try to watch a film.

Mice! Yes, in Amsterdam there are mice and if you want to see them get to this movie theater. They are not big rats, but I do not like to get the noise of mice eating left overs of pop corn and chips on top of the already noisy Dutch audience!
It is an old building, divided in two areas. The old part and the renovated one.
The old one has the big theater which is very nice, but hey. you get charged extra to watch a movie there… WHOOOOOT? That is is weirdest thing ever. The small theaters in the old part are really crappy and the one close to the toilet smells!
The renovated part is nice but you have to walk 5 minutes up the stairs to get to the movie you have chosen. It is a kind of maze.
The tickets can be bought sometimes at the ticket bob by the entrance and sometimes directly at the bar… I did not understand yet which criteria they use. For sure they could use a bit more kindness at the bar. Compare to other theaters they are really rude and careless.
If I have the chance, I avoid this place.

Unglaublich toll! In dieser Kino Kathedrale muss man wirklich mal einen Film sehen und am besten einen Logenplatz buchen. Man kommt sich vor wie in einem anderen Jahrhundert und kriegt die Getränke + Snacks von einem Kellner in die Loge gebracht. Es ist gar nicht mal soooo teuer.
Einfach traumhaft & unvergesslich.

It is a monument and a ‘must see’ when visiting the city.
Viewing a film is better next door at the Pathe Munt screens where it is the state of the art sounds and screen. At the Tuschinski the sound acoustic is not the best due to the design of the space.
Go for the building, enter the foyer, buy some ice cream and look around. Then exit and walk to the Pathe Munt and watch the same movies.

Die Einlasskontrolle am Eröffnungswochenende von Inception war leicht überfordert, aber nachdem diese überstanden war, war das Betreten des großen Kinosaals ein Erlebnis: Ich hatte das Vergnügen in einer der Logen zu sitzen; welches Kino hat das schon zu bieten. Technisch gab es keinen Anlass zur Beanstandung.

Das Tuschinski ist das schönste Kino, dass ich kenne (und ich gehe gern ins Kino!). Da ich ein großer Fan vom Jugendstil bin und Popcorn mich magisch anlockt, kommen hier quasi zwei Dinge perfekt zueinander.
Allein die Fassade des Kinos ist wunderschön (wie man auf dem Foto des Beitrags auch sieht). Geht man hinein, findet man eine ebenso schöné Vorhalle und lange, mir rotem Teppich ausgelegte Flure. Die Kinosäle sind groß und so hat alles eine ganz bestimmte Atmosphäre, die je nach Film, ganz eigen wirkt.
Wie gesagt — mein Lieblingskino.

Das schönste Kino, in dem ich jemals war. Überwältigend.
Kinokarte kostete So abends 10 EUR, preislich also eher oberes Ende, aber für dieses Kino angemessen.

Ein Tipp, einen tollen Abend zu erleben, ist ein Besuch im Pathé Tuschinski. Das Kino wurde 1921 eröffnet und beeindruckt noch heute mit seinem Art Deco Portal. Hier hat ein Kinobesuch deutlich mehr Stil als in jedem Megaplexx. Vor allem, wenn Sie sich Loveseats leisten. Für EUR 30 bekommen Sie ihre private Loge für zwei Personen, Weinbegleitung inklusive. Knutschen, Weintrinken und Häppchen in die Loge bestellen, kann es was Schöneres geben? ;)
Falls noch irgendjemand an den Film denkt, keine Sorge: Die laufen alle im Original mit Untertitel.

Unglaubliches Kino in Amsterdam. Das Gebäude ist so sensationell, dass der Film –zumindest beim ersten Besuch– zur Nebensache verkommt. Ein gigantischer Saal, der von der Größe her mit alten Theatern und Opernhäusern mithalten kann. Aber auch die Eingangshalle ist unglaublich!
Passend zu diesem imposanten und nicht alltäglichem Kinobesuch gibt es eine Reihe von Specials, so gibt es Privat– oder VIP-​Logen, Champagner oder andere Getränke, exklusive Loveseats und vieles mehr.
Für alle die in Amsterdam ins Kino gehen ein absolutes Muss!

Wie einen Einstieg finden ins Thema, ins herrliche Gebäude, Jugendstil innen und außen, ein Kino, das selbst dann bewundernd hinschauen lässt, wenn es geschlossen ist, dieses Kino, bah welch plattes Wort für dieses Filmtheater, wie es in der Welt kein Zweites gibt. Lasst mich das einfach mal so behaupten. Amsterdambesucher, lass dir dieses Juwel nicht entgehen.
Pathe heißt der heutige Eigentümer, der sich bemüht, dieses Kunstwerk originalgetreu zu erhalten. Abraham Tuschinski heißt das Genie, das dieses Wunderwerk erdachte und erschaffen ließ.
Also, die schmiedeeisernen Gitter im Jugendstil sind ebenso das Betrachten wert, wie das im Jugendstil errichtete Gebäude selbst.
Und da stehe ich mit meinem Bericht erst vor der verschlossenen, vergitterten Tür… Liebe Leser, geht hin und schaut es euch an. Die Pforten öffnen sich und ihr betretet eine andere Welt. Auf einem handgeknüpften Teppich. 150 Quadratmeter an einem Stück ließ Abraham Tuschinski für seinen Weltfilmpalast in jahrelanger Arbeit knüpfen. Und weil meines Wissens hinter einem erfolgreichen Mann immer auch eine starke Frau steht, erlaubt mir, hier auch den Namen seiner Frau zu nennen: Mariem Estera Ehrlich.
Abraham Tuschinski hat in Amsterdam ein Kino gebaut. Das war 1921. Damals war es noch üblich, dass in den Pausen Kabarettvorstellungen stattfanden und dass es ein Hausorchester gab. Und in diesem unglaublich schönen und architektonisch gewagten Gebäude sind auf der Bühne Künstler wie Marlene Dietrich, Edith Piaf oder Josephine Baker aufgetreten.
1600 Plätze sollte Tuschinskis Weltfilmpalast haben und der kostete bis zur offiziellen Eröffnung im Jahre 1921 die damals unglaubliche Summe von 4 Millionen Gulden.
Abraham Tuschinski wurde am 14.5.1886 in Polen geboren. Er verließ das Land zusammen mit seiner Frau und wollte nach Amerika. Aber er landete in Holland, genauer in Rotterdam, lebte und arbeitete dort und gründete bald das erste Kino in den Niederlanden. Aber sein Wunsch war ein Weltfilmpalast in Amsterdam und diesen Traum setzte er um. Bis heute dürfen wir diesen wunderbaren Palast bewundern, mit dem herrlichen Teppich und der wunderschönen «Spinnenlampe», ein Filmtheater wie es bestimmt kein zweites auf der Welt gibt.
Für mich ist dies ein absoluter Lieblingsplatz. Auch, weil Tuschinski deutschen Künstlern eine Bühne bot, als diese anderswo nicht mehr auftreten durften. Ich nenne da nur einmal Rudolf Nelson, und auch Dora Paulsen, Eva Busch, Fritzi Schadl, Ine Ruth, Kurt Lilien, Marcella Salzer, Harald Horsten und als Gast der Komiker Emil Feldmar. Die Revue damals hieß übrigens La Gaite. Dieser Mann hat deutschen Kulturschaffenden immens geholfen. Das weiß heute natürlich fast niemand mehr und deshalb möchte ich nicht nur in dieses wunderbare Gebäude einladen, sondern auch etwas zu seiner Geschichte erzählen.
Abraham Tuschinski war eine der ersten herausragenden Persönlichkeiten, die von den deutschen Besatzern ins KZ verschleppt und ermordet wurden, das war am 1. Juli 1942.
Was geblieben ist, das ist ein sagenhaftes Lebenswerk.
Eines, das wir Deutschen staunend und voller Respekt genießen dürfen. Wir, die wir nach dem Krieg geboren sind, brauchen uns nicht persönlich schuldig fühlen am Tode dieses wunderbaren Genies, es reícht, wenn wir uns an seiner Leistung erfreuen, sein Lebenswerk zur Kenntnis nehmen und im Gedenken an sein Tun dankbar einen Stein an sein/​ein virtuelles Grab legen.
