You immediately think of the red light district or of the cannabis culture when you hear the word«Amsterdam.» Sex, drugs and… What? Sex, drugs and Dutch fries! I believe that it’s impossible to walk down the big Damrak street without spotting tourists holding a paper cone filled with fries and different kinds of sauce. I knew that I had to try them so I whipped out my phone and found this place with the help and power of the Internet. I’m going to be honest with you — these are probably the best fries I’ve ever had. These thick golden fries, slathered with a generous amount of condiments, are the best thing to have after committing a few legal sins. They’re so crispy on the outside yet so soft and steamy from the inside — I’m glad that they legalized these too. What held me from giving this place a 5 star was the service which felt dull but I’d still highly recommend this place during your stay/visit in Amsterdam.

The most notable friterie in the city. When I arrived there was a decent sized line. I have to admit I wasn’t blown away. I don’t think this place has to offer any much different than friteries around the city but it satisfied my Vlaams Fritehuis need. I would recommend this spot.

Insanely tasty fries with a variety of 28 sauces to choose from. They are golden brown and crispy on the outside and warm and chewy on the inside. Semi-orgasmic with every bite.

I first read about patatje oorlog in a Buzzfeed article about foods from Amsterdam that you must try. They weren’t wrong. Vlaams Friteshuis Vleminkckx is VERY easy to miss. My boyfriend and I walked by it a few times and missed it. That was right before opening. But as soon as it did open, we noticed the line and that’s how we were able to find it. If you don’t know, patatje oorlog, meaning war chips, consists of french fries, mayo, raw onions, and an Indonesian sate(peanut) sauce. It wouldn’t normally put any of these ingredients/condiments on my fries but it was a very interesting combination. I didn’t love it but it was a cool cultural experience, one that I’m sure you won’t find elsewhere. So if you’re visiting Amsterdam/Netherlands for the first time, you should deffo give it a try!

Went to Amsterdam in April. Was wandering around the city center when I came across this small fries stand, the sign touting it as having the«best fries in Amsterdam.» Decided to give it a try, even though I had many an experience taste-testing fries in Belgium and France. Ordered fries with curry sauce and onions, and it was AMAZING. Curry sauce had character, as it was flavorful and wonderfully paired with the white onions. Fries were warm, greasy, and very comforting. Loved it!

There is not much left to be said about this place, but I left Amsterdam nearly two months ago and still daydream about these fries and the samurai sauce — that warrants a review. The line moves more quickly than you think it will, and to offset the lack of any sort of structure for eating, frites in a cone make a great snack for wandering up and down the canals.

The fries themselves here are just ok, but what sets them apart is how many different sauces you can get with them.(You can only get the sauces on top of the fries. It’s not possible to get them on the side.) In a land where you often can’t even choose what toppings come on your hamburger, this is a very nice touch. There is often a line of tourists waiting to get their fries, but the line moves quickly so don’t let that intimidate you.

Hands down the best fries in Amsterdam! It’s hidden in an alley but you’ll be able to recognize it from the line snaking right outside the booth. But fret not, it moves quickly. Apart from drinks, they sell nothing but fries so judging from the line, you know it has gotta be good. The fries are always freshly fried so if you do miss a batch, just a few minutes more before you get to sink your teeth into those golden fried chunky fries. They have a huge array of sauces. I had them with mayo the last time and though it was good, I decided to go without any sauces. And it was as good as I remembered. If not, better! The saltiness and the crisp… yum!

The very popular ‘Flemish Fry House” serves homemade Belgian fries(they’re fried twice!) with your choice of sauce. We recommend trying them with the joppiesaus. The frites from Vlemincks are some of the best; they’re light, crispy and, in our opinion, perfectly salted.

What else can be said? Not much, but I’m writing a review anyway. You can expect a line, but it moves fast, and it’s worth it. I’m came here twice on two different trips, and the staff weren’t that friendly, but I can’t really blame them. I wouldn’t be too happy if I had to sit in a fry hut anyway. I like to order mine«oorlog» which I think literally translates to «war,» which comes with a few of the sauces slathered over with raw onions.

Legend says that these are the best fries in Amsterdam. I have no clue which tourist guidebook started this but after trying out the fries here a few times, I can only say that they’re fresh and good, but not sure if they’re the best. For that I’d have to try out the countless Michelin grade burger spots as well as the organic fries kiosks that sprout up everywhere in Amsterdam in the summer months. An almost impossible task. That said, they have a few good toppings options for fries. I think the selection is more at Mannekin Pis, but you can’t really go wrong with the peanut sauce or the hot sauce here. They don’t have anything but fries, save for water and other drinks. Cash only and no place for a sit down fries snack. You will have to line up. Definitely worth a try in Amsterdam.

This place sells French fries. A lot of places sell French fries, but French fries are pretty much it here, which to me, makes this a unique joint. We ordered a large to share, and asked for the most popular sauce. The fries are served in a cardboardish cone shaped open container that is clearly designed to be easily held in one hand while walking about. The most popular sauce is mayonaise, at least it looked, and tasted like mayonaise to me. It was cold out, and the hot, fresh, mayonaise covered fries were perfect. We snacked as we walked through the local market and enjoyed every last fry. The staff was super friendly, and the price of the fries was very reasonable. This seems to be a local favorite as we saw many a person walking with the cone shaped containers in hand. If you visit Amsterdam, try to fries with the mayo!

Delicious fries. Enough said. But seriously, what more can you say? They have fries and sauce and are cash only. Nowhere to sit… you stand and eat them(or go to one of the nearby establishments that will let you sit with your fries if you order a beer). There always seems to be a bit of a line here, but it moves quickly.

I went here while in Amsterdam for a short amount of time because I was really missing frites. WOW! I think I fell in love with this place!!! The prices were very reasonable & the sizes of the fries were certainly generous. Before I ordered, I asked about the difference between the small & medium size fries; the small already seemed to be quite large so I went with that. I also noticed that a large amount of Unilocalers had ordered the spicy mayo so rather than sort through the extensive sauce menu, I went ahead & got the spicy mayo as well(they’re also generous with sauce portions). My sauce & frites size choices were right on point! If(and when) I go back, I’m sure I’ll get the same thing. In short, if you love fries/frites like me… you’ll love this place. :)

If you’re in Amsterdam, you need to have street fries, and this little hole in the wall is the best place to get them! After the first time we had their fries, we planned the rest of our tourist activities so that we would«happen» to be in the area at lunchtime and enjoy fries for lunch(or brunch. Don’t judge me.)! There was always a long line of people ordering fries, so we were obviously not the only ones who employed this tactic. The Dutch way to enjoy fries is to get them in a huge paper cone, with a large dollop of mayonnaise on top. There were at least a couple dozen different mayo flavorings(menu in Dutch and in English) which can be a little overwhelming, so I usually just ordered whatever mayo flavor the customer in front of me just had. There is no seating in the alley, but I appreciated that the restaurant across the way would let you sit in there if you ordered a drink. STREETFRIESAREBRILLIANT! If I lived in Amsterdam, I would eat street fries every day.

There are TONS of places that sell these types of fries aka frites but we came here because of an awesome travel show we saw(not on the travel channel). It’s hidden in a small street within the shopping blocks of this neighborhood. You’d have to Google map it to find it. But once you turn the corner and see the line of people and crowds standing in front with their triangular cones, you know you found it. We were lucky the day we came the line wasn’t too long. Probably a 5 minute wait. Once we got up to the counter, we were overwhelmed with the abundance of sauce options! So naturally the beau always asks what the most popular ones are and we ended up with a large order of frites with the satay sauce for € 4,10. It may sound weird, but it was surprisingly the perfect pairing. The sweetness of the peanut sauce was perfect with the saltiness of the fries! Being an extremely picky eater because I’m a health freak, I almost passed on trying it out but I gave in and had a few bites… with no regrets!!! The ladies working at the counter speak English so don’t worry if you don’t know what to order… just ask for their recommendations! P. s. I believe it’s cash only.

I hate to admit but these frites are freaking delicious. So many sauces to choose so I didn’t know what to order. So I decided to try sambal sauce and the spiciness is wonderful.

Best in the city(period). There are a few places which rival it but well it’s the best. Even though the line seems long and always is, the guys push through Seleucids fries with precision. All the toppings you could want and the bar across the street has the coldest beer. If I’m in the neighborhood shopping and in the mood for friets, this is the place.

Volle Punktzahl, absolute Empfehlung!

Really lucky that I stumbled onto Vlaams Friteshuis Vleminkx during my first day in Amsterdam while strolling about because I came back every day afterwards! Other frites I had in Amsterdam could not top them. The frites here are fantastic and with the way they are prepared can hold up to the many different sauces(they have SO many chocies) that you may wish to smother your fries with. I went with the classic mayo and peanut sauce combination which was excellent. This place is always busy up until the last second when they have to close. Don’t be afraid of the long line as the service is quick!

Although I’m not a fries kind of person(don’t hate me!) this place has amazing fries! You can really have a taste of the local way of eating fries — with mayo! Dutch mayo! I don’t know why but I think Dutch mayo is different than other mayos, it’s thick and creamy, and goes perfectly with the chunky fries. They come out all warm and crispy, it’s a nice pick me up! The place consists of a small window on the street, where you can order from after — probably — waiting in line for a while(it can get super busy, just proves how good it is!) A small portion was more than enough for me(I couldn’t even finish) but the guys(Dutch) usually all get the big portions with mayo, ketchup and onions(yes, onions! :)). Perfect stop for all the fries lovers!
