Diner 55 comprises 3 restaurants: Mr. Pancake, Pan Burger(Mr. Burger), and Ricos Tacos… at least until recently. Ricos Tacos has not been a part of the Diner 55 «family» since mid-June. Yet, this has not stopped Diner 55 from allegedly serving tacos under the Ricos Tacos brand. I love Ricos Tacos — best, most authentic Mexican food in Poland — I am pretty sure this is not an overstatement. Yet, under the supervision of those other than the actual owners of the Ricos Tacos brand, the tacos have been altered with any number of non-Mexican ingredients — including canned corn and curry. It is simply outrageous. Besides the fact that Diner 55 has again allegedly stolen Ricos Tacos brainchild and intellectual property, Pan Burger and Mr. Pancake make me shudder. The first time I tried Pan Burger was at Barka in the summer of 2013. Following up on the unending winter of the Warsaw Burger Trend, Pan Burger is one of the most dismal examples of putting meat between two pieces of bread I’ve ever seen. The first and last Pan Burger«burger» I ate was a piece of uncooked meat that tasted like cold, pasty cutlet mielony with a piece of hard cheese rind on top. To give Pan Burger some credit, I did hear that they’ve changed the beef they use. Yet, first impressions linger. And Mr. Pancake? Mr. Pancake takes an American breakfast food and roundhouse kicks it with an American stereotype. Very functional and successful. Pancakes smothered in Nutella, candy bars, pop tarts — dubbed«Pornfood» –Mr. Pancake takes the original American breakfast food and slathers it with«Americans are fat and only eat junk food» and sells it to hip hop kids who think that all Americans also drink out of red plastic cups at every party they attend.(Which we kind of do for some reason). Generally, it is a great concept. It’s sickening, but it sells here. WEDONOTEATSUCHTHINGSINAMERICA. But hey — it looks spectacular. So, Klub 55 in general — rated the most Hipster Place in Warsaw 2013– draws in a lot of children looking to eat candy and make out in the dark corners of the club underneath neon lights and hardcore taco fans, who are now being fed a travesty of what I consider stolen intellectual property. Now, I would like to mention that Diner operates individually from Klub 55 and that each restaurant has it’s own owners. So Pan Burger and Mr. Pancake, besides selling what I find to be heinous, insulting food, actually have nothing to do with the politics of the place. Plus I had my birthday party here, and someone stole my presents. Unhappiness all around. –Disclaimer– the writer of this article is personal friends with the owners of Ricos Tacos.
