Hidden in Mariensztat, Gruski Pietruszki is a small, cozy bar/café. I was delighted to discover it, because it is one of virtually zero darling establishments in the heart of one of the most picturesque, out-of-the-way parts of Warsaw. There is outside seating with beach chairs and blankets, and tiered seating inside. I like the beach chairs, because it adopts the feel of the nearby river scene. The whole place gives off the very trendy modern minimalstic vibe. The furniture is wood and metal, the lamps probably came from some closed down factory in Praga, Lodz, or Detroit, the walls are exposed brick, and there are large windows providing lots of natural light. There is thought provoking art on the walls, and a chalkboard menu on a pillar immidiately inside the door. It also has the typical worn out vintage couch right inside the door. It is predominately a place to have a drink, as they apparently make their own wine. They also have a decent selection of beer, and several versions of lemonade and other refreshing summer drinks. As for the food, it is reasonably priced(15 pln) and the menu changes daily. Food isn’t served until later in the day, but it is lighter fare not meant for a full meal. The only thing I had here that I didn’t like was the avacado choldnik, but I believe that may be because the place is new and they are still experimenting with the menu. Usually there are several cold soups, some starters and salads, and penne with pesto. I haven’t seen much variation in the menu. The hummus was only on the menu once, but it was very good. There are also many beautiful deserts, which are a staple at this sort of place. I recommend it as a place to have a glass of wine with a friend, or to take a book or some work and have a light meal and a coffee.
