U Szwejka

Good atmosphere, delicious food, generous serving size, great live music, excellent customer service.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is visiting Warsaw. Close to the city center, and overall an amazing experience.

Good place. The knuckle is pretty good, especially with the beer.
We sit outside and it was pretty romantic.
Will come again, since it’s right across from where we live.

It seems like a popular place, especially among tourists, but I really didn’t like my experience there. Had borsch, which had WAY too much vinegar and was impossible to finish, and a salad didn’t have much dressing. My friend had kaszanku, and it was too oily. The staff that evening seemed too messy and slow. Live music was lovely though, and the interior is nice.

3-​floor restaurant with rustic decoration, serving traditional polish cuisine. Though the service is a little bit slow, the ambiance very nice and the food is really worth to try. Price/​performance ratio is the best in town. So be ready for long queues.

I’m a woman traveling alone on business staying at a nearby hotel. I’d like to make clear I have no problems with alcohol and people drinking. My family owns a bar in the states. That being said, I went to this restaurant because it was close to my hotel and the reviews were good on Unilocal.
It was a busy night and the line extended outside to get it. While waiting outside I witnessed a patron literally being carried out by his friends. (I hope friends, otherwise he’s in trouble). Carried to the point his feet were dragging on the ground, head more on his chest than up. I also saw the management observing this thru the windows. But, not my business or problem.
Inside I had a table upstairs for one. Again, Saturday night, place was hopping. Patrons are singing loudly, others observing.
Then a gentleman (drunk, no other way to put it) leaves his table and goes to another table to visit. (He didn’t appear to know the two patrons at the table). In short order a woman from a third table starts yelling across a few tables at him. She doesn’t know him either. All the other tables are now pretty much quiet, watching the show. Management shows up, his friends are trying to drag him out. He’s resisting, (large guy, shirt is being pulled up, not a pretty sight by your dinner table).
We know have 6 people involved and its right on the edge of a full fledged brawl. All in between other people trying to dine.
I decided then and there two things.
#1. I was done and wanted out.
#2. This establishment apparently does not care how drunk a patron gets.
I was really uncomfortable at my table at that point. I truly thought there was a good chance this was going to turn into a full fledged brawl.
They managed to calm him down and get him out. I got my check and left.
Maybe I would come back if I was with someone as the food was excellent. But traveling alone — no way. I’d rather go to KFC down the street. Less drama.
Again, the food was great. Too bad they let customers drink till they are falling down drunk and obnoxious jerks wanting to fight.

So, the first time I went here, the food was amazing. The second time wasn’t so great. So I’m not sure if the food is hit or miss. But either way, the atmosphere is amazing and fun. The dinner and drinks are cheap.
You might want to book a table in advance, because it fills up and people wait in line.

One of my favorite restaurants in Warsaw! We’ve been here a number of times in the past two weeks for different meals during the day and each time everything including the atmosphere, the food and the service were very satisfactory. In fact we are set to go here for breakfast. It should be great! Can’t wait!

Do you want a huge Wiener schnitzel for dinner? Then, this is the right place! Of course, it is served with French fries and salad. Every Monday for just 14,90 pln (aprox 3,90 €!)
Nice and big restaurant where you can eat as much meet as you want for a great price. They have specials offers everyday of the week, so I dare you to try all of them!

When you have lazed most of your Sunday in the warmth of your home and you step out into the cold for a dinner alone, you would hope that it’s worth the effort. U Szwejka, a Polish/​Czech restaurant right in the hub of the Politeknika square — totally nailed it.
Walking past the eatery you can’t help notice how lively this place was. Chatting students — loads of them, music from the medieval ages with a bagpiper note — I could let mind forget a few things!
After I occupied a silent corner table by the staircase, I ordered a Grilled chicken breast gratinated with cheese with roasted potatoes and Bavarian sauerkraut.
I didn’t know that I was so hungry given that I totally devoured the complementary bread and with the cheese and sausage portions. After the first bite they were too good to be left aside. Waiting for the food I couldn’t help notice the uniform of the main stewards who were almost dressed like doctors — with a white coat.
While the menu said hot dishes will take 20mins, mine came in 5. The chicken was succinct, and brilliantly grilled. The roasted potatoes and cheese were perfect. The cabbage base was slightly sour for my palate but it was okay. I almost licked the plate clean within a few minutes.
The big decision point was a drink or a dessert, and went with the dessert. My choice was Apple cake with vanilla ice. I think the dessert took more time than the main course but it was completely worth the wait. Unlike some over sweet desserts it left you just wanting for a little more.
The price for the food was fairly decent as well.

Big portions, good food and a very reasonable price. A row before the entrance: and it’s worth waiting!

This restaurant is definitely one of the best in Warszaw. It´s well placed right in a centrum and it´s based on Czech and Polish cousine.
One friendly warning. Order appetizer only in a case that you are supermegahyperglalactical hungry. Portions are sooo huge. Main dish would be enough for the whole family of four. I didn´t finish my meal for the first time in my life. I made a rookie´s mistake and ordered soup which was kind a like a little lake. There was no chance to finish the main dish :-) Btw: the main dish was skewered meat and each of the pieces of meat was like a little schnitzel and by little I don´t mean some mini-​schnitzels but kind a normal little bit smaller sized schnitzel.
Quality of food is very good. Also beer (Pilsner urquell) tastes really good so I guess they keep the pipes clean. Service is also pretty good so no complaints about it. Prices are very acceptable, especially according to the meal´s portions.
I definitely recommend this place to visit. And remember, don´t do a rookie´s mistakes and just order the kid´s portion :-)

Last year, I was in Poland celebrating my birthday. One of my best friends from Poland took me here with another close friend because she assured me i was a great place to celebrate my birthday dinner. We sat on their patio and received very friendly service. I ordered the roasted duck with apples, hot beets and bread dumplings. Wow, what portion sizes! I think all three of us could have eaten from this one plate. The food was good, but it was definitely quantity rather than quality. For dessert, they surprised me with a piece of szarlotka, a version of an apple pie with vanilla ice cream that was really a sweet way to end the evening. Overall, a nice fun place to have dinner.

We had lunch here, it was bloody good!
the menu is predominately meat based. heaven if you are in a different country and your wife is nowhere close and you can have what you want.
I had the pork ribs, the meal looked huge but once I stripped the meat from the bones there wasn’t a huge amount to eat, my colleague on the other hand ordered the «Huge schnitzel»… it was aptly named; the biggest single bit of meat I have ever seen served to one person, boy was I jealous.
The restaurant has a separate smoking area, a very civilised feature if you ask me.
I loved the place, would be back in a shot!

Fantastic food, interesting display of dishes. I go there every year. Not very expensive either.

Bereits beim Vorbeigehen auf der Straße kommt man nicht umhin einen Blick auf das Restauracja U Swejka und die vor dem Restaurant sitzenden Menschen zu werfen. Selbst zur mitternächtlichen Stunden ist das Lokal immer noch gut gefüllt. Manchmal lässt sich an den Gesichtern von Menschen, die gerade beim dinieren sind, auch ihre Zufriedenheit ablesen. Diese Einschätzung vermittelten mir zumindest die Gesichtszüge der Gäste im Restauracja U Swejka.
Nach meinen dritten Tag in der liebgewonnenen Stadt Warschau wollte ich abends nicht erneut kommend von der Metrostation Politechnika wieder am U Swejka vorbei laufen. Vielmehr wollte ich mich selbst davon überzeugen, wie richtig oder verkehrt ich mit meiner Einschätzung lag! Im Lokal lief gerade ein Viertelfinalspiel der EURO 2012, so war es nicht leicht trotz des großen Platzangebot — zumindest einen noch freien Platz vor einem TV zu bekommen. Am Eingang wurde mir ein Tisch mit einer Nummer im 1. Stock zugewiesen. Im 1. Stock angekommen fragte ich den Ober nach einen freien unter mehr zu Verfügung stehenden Tisch. Er fragte nach meiner Tischnummer, die mir jedoch entfallen war. Trocken meinte er, dass ich ohne Nummer, auch keinen Platz erhalte. Ich bat ihm darum nachzufragen oder mir einfach einen Tisch zuzuweisen. Nachdem er auf beide Vorschläge nicht einging, entschied ich mich für den Tisch mit der besten Sicht zum TV. Leider hatte meine Entscheidung der freien Platzwahl zur Folge, dass mich der zuvorkommende Ober bis auf weiteres ignorierte und meine mehrfachen Handzeichen keine Blicke würdigte. Tja, da fühlt man sich kurzzeitig hilflos, was jedoch dem Hungergefühl nicht in einer Form entgegen kommt. Im Genteil! Zwei Möglichkeiten standen jetzt zur Auswahl: einfach gehen oder dem jungen, polnischen Kellnern zeigen, dass ich mir zu helfen weiß! Hierzu bewegte ich mich mit wenigen Schritten in seine Richtung und teilte ihm mit, dass er mich aufgrund seiner Unart mit seinem Chef bekanntmachen soll.
Der Chef kam natürlich nicht! Dafür bedient mich aber fortan ein (noch) freundlicher, anderer Kellner. Auf meine Frage, welches Gericht die Spezialität des Hauses sei, empfahl er mir eine Ente zu bestellen. Gegen diese Spezialität hatte ich nichts einzuwenden. Bevor die große Portion Ente mit Äpfeln, Kartoffeln und Blaukraut (29,90 PLN) serviert wurde gab es auf Kosten des Restaurants frisches Brot mit Griebenschmalz. Zwei verschiedene Biere (Tyskie und König Pilsener, 6,00 PLN) stillten meinen Durst, ließen jedoch auch den Ärger über meinen Lieblingskellner größer werden. Der ignorierte weiterhin mein Handzeichen nach dem ersten Bier mit den Wunsch auf ein weiteres! Ich nahm mir im Anschluß an mein gutes, vor allem sehr reichhaltiges Essen die Zeit mich mit dem ignoranten Ober im Kreise seiner Kollegen über sein aufmerksames Verhalten zu unterhalten. Ich gab ihm zu verstehen, dass seine Minuten im Restauracja U Szwejka gezählt wären, wenn ich über seine Zukunft als Kellner entscheiden müsste.
Trotz des nicht alltäglichen Ärgers gebe ich gerne eine Empfehlung, besonders für auswertige Besucher von Warschau, weiter sich von meinen persönlichen Schicksal nicht abzuhalten und sich unbedingt ins U Szwejka zu begeben: Das Restauracja ist vermutlich aufgrund der Einrichtung und des Preis-​/​Leistungsverhältnis eine Institution von Warschau. Müsste ich das Restauracja U Szwejka mit anderen mir bekannten Lokalen vergleichen, fallen mir sofort zwei in Bayern ein, die ein Aushängeschild für sehr viele Menschen — die für gemütliche Atmosphäre bei guten Essen etwas übrig haben — sind und für mich den gleichen Stelllenwert haben: das Herzogliche Bräustüberl am Tegernsee und das Augustiner in der Landsberger Straße in München. Wer einmal dort war, kommt gerne und immer wieder zurück!

Das Restaurant U Szwejka zählt zu meinen absoluten Favoriten in Warschau. Es bietet sehr gute böhmisch/​polnische Küche zu sehr guten Preisen. Der Service im Restaurant ist gut und das Personal ist trotz der enormen Lautstärke nicht genervt und stets freundlich. Mit der enormen Laurstärke wären wir beim nächsten Punkt: Das Restaurant ist rustikal-​gemütlich eingerichtet und bietet wenig Lärmschutz. Wenn dann auch noch eine Band mit Klarinette, Tuba und mehr versucht die Gespräche zu übertönen, dann wird das Restaurant mit einer osteuropäischen Wirtshausatmosphäre zur Erlebnisgastronomie klasse!
Zu den Preisen ist noch zu sagen, dass diese wirklich günstig sind, als wir das benannte Restaurant besuchten gab es ein riesiges Schnitzel (siehe Foto) inklusive Pommes und kleinem Salat für 15 PLN das sind nach jetzigem Umrechnungskurs (Januar 2012) weniger als 4EUR. Ein kleines Bier kostete 3 PLN im Tagesangebot das sind ca. 0,70EUR.
Aber nun zur Qualität des Essens: Toll! Das Schnitzel war dünn und sehr lecker, die Pommes nicht labrig und der Salat frisch.
Zusammengefasst: Meine absolute Empfehlung für eine Reise nach Warschau besucht das Restaurant U Szwejka am Plac Konstitucyi.

Große Portionen, deftig und es schmeckt! Günstig ist es noch dazu, vor allem die tägl. Angebote.

Ich war bisher erst 2 Mal in Warschau und beide Male an einem Abend in Begleitung in diesem Restaurant. Die Küche ist sehr deftig, wie man es von böhmischen Restaurants aus tschechien kennt, das Angebot ist riesig, allerdings ist man auf grundlegende Polnischkenntnisse angewiesen, da die Bedienung in der Regel kein English spricht. (Ich hatte Gottseidank Polen an meiner Seite)
Beide Abende waren ein kulinarisches Highlight, und für Leute, die nicht jeden Cent umdrehen müssen, kann ich dieses Restaurant guten Gewissens empfehlen.
Insgesamt war ich von der Polnischen Küche übrigens insgesamt sehr begeistert. Alle besuchten Restaurants waren geschmackvoll gestaltet und hatten ein gutes Bewusstsein für Qualität und Hygiene.
