It’s almost a certainty, but if you list the top 5 beaches in the world, one of them will always be Culebra’s Flamenco Beach, BUT… . . . I found a beach that’s EVENBETTER: Playa de CoreyG(I proclaimed it with this name since it appears to be a nameless beach) What do you think of when thinking of the lovely Flamenco Beach? o White soft sand o Crystal clear waters o Warm comforting water o Peace These are all great and good, BUT y’know what? Playa de CoreyG is even BETTER — because it has all of this x10! This beach is TOPS in my book because of its seclusion. The beach is just off the small island of Culebra on the even smaller island Cayo Luis Pena. The only way to get to this beach is by taking a boat(I kayaked) from Culebra, and going to the other side of the island(it’s less than a mile away.) On the other side of Luis Pena, you will round the corner and find one small sandy nameless cove. Go past this one and go to the next cove. This beach is a bit bigger. Ride a few waves in and you will be at the world’s BEST beach: Playa de CoreyG. The beach isn’t very wide, but there’s more than enough room to lay down your towel and soak some rays, read a book, or take a nap(don’t forget sunscreen!). I spent a few hours here. While here, I was followed by another couple. They dropped off their kayak and did some snorkeling. The water is magnificent – super clear & the sand is nice and soft with very little rocks to worry about. There are views of even smaller islands off to the north/west. This is what I imagine Flamenco Beach was like before it became discovered, touted, & touristy. I should have stayed longer, but I wanted to circumnavigate around Luis Pena to get back(BIGMISTAKE). First off, paddling around the rest of the island is long! Secondly, when you get on the other side of the island you run into some rough seas(wind & waves will pound you.) Two & a half hours later and 10 blisters on my hand, I made it back to Culebra. In hindsight, I should have just stayed on my beach longer and went back the short route. It’s OK. I will be back. My beach beckons.
