After going to dinner at another restaurant and having some mediocre mojitos, my wife and I were in the mood for a quality cocktail and El Bar Bero exceeded expectations. Carlos was working the bar and I told him the types of drinks I enjoy. He suggested the Caribbean Manhattan for myself and promised to make my wife a far better mojito than she had experienced earlier. Carlos delivered! Our drinks were outstanding, the atmosphere was great, and fellow patrons were fun to chat with. Definitely make El Bar Bero a stop when you’re in town.

I am an American cocktail enthusiast so when I came to this bar I was delighted with the quality of cocktails the bartenders served– I live next to New York and I was blown away. Something I always watch for is consistency and quality of ice used by the bartender. The ice was fresh and dry so the cocktails weren’t watered down when mixing. Also noticed that these bartenders actually took the time to meticulously measure ingredients and the large variety of bitters they had on display– I was in love. Don’t believe the hype. La Factoria is not the best bar in Puerto Rico. This one is!

Very original place. Had a great atmosphere. Was going to originally give it 4 stars due to its compact size and dim lighting but the service that was given to us by Carlos, bartender with longer hair and glasses, was the best i had on my trip and the cocktails he recommended and made were just what i needed. He was very knowledgeable of his craft and looked like he toke great pride in it. Will be returning for another much needed drink and will be making sure that Carlos will be taking care of us as should you.

Now that it’s been over a week since I’ve gotten back from my trip to Puerto Rico I gotta give the low down of what happened to be our favorite spot overall on the trip. El bar Bero was the most impressive establishment in the parque area of San Juan. The theme is a barbershop style bar which I am in love with personally as I had an idea for a similar business. There were signature mustaches all over the wall, in pictures. On mirrors. And three pimped out barber chairs near the bar. This is what I call a craft cocktail bar that would put many in my area to shame. The amount of detail in their drinks were amazing. Ingredients and measurements were down to a science. After the first sip I was blown away. I Gotta say I didn’t expect to find such skilled mixoligist in the bohemian hipster area of parque but I’m so glad I did. The food was small tapas but was actually great as well. Just to hear these guys talk about there craft is impressive. Cudos to the talented staff and great experience.

One of the best bars in the area. So this place was very conveniently located just a few steps away from the hotel we stayed at. First you have to give them credit for the name itself(in spanish it makes much more sense). We came to this place not being sure what to expect, we knew it was early for there to be a crowd but being that we were on vacation showing up here at 6pm at night seemed the«normal time to begin drinking». So its a long space with barbershop chairs as seats and even some small tables for groups. Then you head to the back where a small bar and two bartenders await your orders. Both bartenders were real nice and their drinks were just too amazing. Again when we visited it was really«dead» however we did show up here a bit early. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area. I got the«Vieja del barbero» and let me tell you it was real real nicely made. I will be back to this place on my next trip.

The best bar in town! Every drink is a dream. They always have some of the local favorites on special but the real gems are the cocktails created by el Bar Bero himself and his team. And don’t go without trying their fish tacos!

They set the BAR, literally! Drinks are made to perfection with an explanation of what you are ordering. One of a kind drinks with twist on Classic Drinks. El Bar Bero is a must if you are in the area wanting a drink.

Excellent drinks, charming service. We were there mid-evening(8 – 12) on a Thursday night; the place was quiet with enough time to chat with the bartenders while a steady stream of patrons came in and out. The drinks menu is mix of originals and classic tastes(usually, as the bartenders will explain, adjusted slightly for the PuertoRican palette). The results are wonderful: subtle, refined, and beautifully made drinks; great conversation at the bar if you want it; and a fun, informal cocktail setting. Highly recommended whether you are staying or Santurce or looking for a high quality(and very reasonably priced) excursion out of OSJ. Also the fish tacos were tasty.

I was walking near the apartment that I was staying at in Condado and found a place that would change the course of my time in Puerto Rico. Now what intrigued me at first was the name el Bar Bero and wordplay on «The Barber». So I started to think about my experiences at the barbershop that I go to. When I wait for my appointment I often scan the room looking at all of the connections being made. Your relationship with your barber is special, you sit down to catch up on each others lives, the good and bad things, you talk about interests and annoyances, you share smiles and laughs and unfortunately sometimes tears. During your time in their chair you catch up with a special friend. You walk into el Bar Bero and it’s a mix between ‘Gangs of New York’ meets the eccentricities of a Quentin Tarantino flick. Adorning the wall are pictures of various mustache styles, antique barbershop chairs, an old shoe shine spot in back with subtleties like barbsol cans serving as vase centerpieces for each table. Carlos, the owner, and one of three Carlos’s that work there including another bartender and Carlos’s father Carlos the chef. A chalkboard on the wall features the regional and seasonal drinks as well as the crème de la crème list of craft cocktails. Before I even ordered my first cocktail ‘The Bees Knees’, with my spirit of choice gin — I knew what to expect. That same attention to detail that had gone into every nook and cranny of el Bar Bero was about to go into making this drink. After first sip it’s moments like this you wish the body could miraculously counteract the effects of alcohol so you could drink all of the cocktails on the list. You can appreciate when a person puts their soul and passion into something and with every one I tried I got an explanation of the drink, the breakdown, and gleam in the eye as «other Carlos bartender» explained to me the intricacies of gin and the different distillery processes. Needless to say I went back every night for the remainder of my vacation. As much as I appreciated the thought and detail that went into the cocktails, and the fish tacos; also eaten every night. I met great people. The berocrew accepted me as one of their own during my time in Puerto Rico and I’m beyond thankful. I look forward to seeing the many special friends again, that I met while sitting in the chair at ‘The Barber’.

My friends and I came to this bar because we saw the great reviews on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. We came in last Wednesday and we sat at the bar and weren’t even greeted by the bartender. I really wanted to like this place but the bartender kind of killed it for me. His customer service really sucks. He came off as a bit arrogant. He wasn’t very friendly. We left 15 minutes after and went down the street to Funky Buddha which was a lot better.

Loved the atmosphere in this place. Reminded me of the cocktail bars in Brooklyn and Chicago, sans the pretentious hipsters. The bartenders really know their stuff. Loved the aromatics of the drinks, and they aren’t too sweet. If you want to sip on a cocktail while kicking back on an old barber’s chair, this is your place. Chill spot. Cool people.

Possibly the best two cocktails I’ve ever had in my entire life. The Luigi gin, basil, and cucumber cocktail tasted like liquid gold. I’m having relapse mouth orgasms just thinking about it… I also loved the concept for this bar. Mustaches abound! And who doesn’t love a good mustache? No friend of mine, I can tell you that…

Bartender is knowledgeable about his drinks and they have walls of signature drinks. Definitely a go to spot and chill. Music is r&b and plenty of seating. It’s a barber shop atmosphere.

What ever you do, do not get the gin and basil drink!!! Gross I was throwing up in my mouth. Otherwise, awesome place! Cool themed bar that a lot of hipsters go to.
