This is my favorite Japanese BBQ place to go to in Central. The place is much nicer than its other 298 restaurant in Sheung Wan. Beef is all very good. I rarely order Bc the boys usually order, but I think my favorite beef is Harami. My other favorite jap BBQ restaurant is Iroha, they have one in CWB and TST.

I visited its sister restaurant in Sheung Wan, 298 Nikuya Kitchen, over a year ago and I must say this new 298 Nikuya Room is much better. The restaurant is much more spacious and has better ambience. The wait staff here were very attentive. If you like beef, there is no doubt you will like this place. The five of us went for a la carte options, ordering a few appetizers and hot dishes to share including some kimchi, pork & kimchi pancake, japchae, raw beef with egg and two stone pots of bibimbap. For barbecue, we had the thick cut ox tongue, prime kaibi, pork neck and scallops & mushrooms. Everything was tasty. Although the portions were small, we were quite full for just spending less than $ 300 per head. Given the quality of the food and cost per head, this is of very good value. They do offer a omakase menu for $ 880 per head. I wonder what quality meat they will offer. Given a la carte was not too expensive, I’m not sure if I would go for the omakase menu if I come back next time. Perhaps I’ll find a special occasion to try it!

Having had the first taste of their Japanese/Korean yakiniku in their cramped and modest Sheung Wan location, we are excited to visit 298 Nikuya’s newer, posher cousin in an office building in Stanley Street. The banquette seats are much more spacious and the venue is tastefully done. We had ordered the A5 beef platter which comes with its own anatomy picture to show which part of the cow we are eating. The beef is of top quality and very very delicious. Mostly a Japanese yakiniku place, the restaurant also offers many Korean side dishes such as kimchi, chigae and savory crispy pancakes. Now that we can sit much more comfortably we will definitely be back really soon. Bottomline: A5 platter, butter lettuce salad, tofu chigae, and their homemade plum wine on rocks.
