Great set lunch in a casual and cozy resto. The Kennedy Town location means you need to be able to take a 2 hour lunch if you work in Central. Dessert is nothing to write home about, but the savory dishes are a hit.

Visiting for a few days and was really craving duck pâté! I called a few places and while some had pâté, not quite the kind I was looking for. I finally got to this adorable place in Kennedy town and needless to say I was not disappointed. The service was lovely, the décor was adorable and it was quite comfortable. The food was great, from escargot over bone marrow to the rib eye my husband ordered(which was an exact medium rare as asked for) everything was delicious. Would absolutely come here again on my next visit to Hk! My husband pointed out the excellent service as well, the staff is on point.

BDV is located in Western District which is becoming more and more popular. In the past few years many good restaurants and bars opened here. BDV belongs to one of them. The setting is casual with a nice Paris like bistro décor. This place is small and the tables tightly sit next to each other to make use of the space. Especially on weekends it is crowded. The atmosphere is buzzing but very pleasant. They have 2 seating’s, first from 630 — 830, second from 830 until close. The service is efficient and quick, may lack of warmth and friendliness depending of the server; especially when the place is packed. The wine list is small, with only a few selections of sparkling, red and white. If you want to have a nice bottle, bring your own wine. For every 2 person they waive the corkage for one bottle. If you bring more they charge you HK$ 200 per bottle which is very reasonable nowadays. The selection of food is adequate and offers typical french bistro fare. I have to say that the quality and taste of food is excellent. None of the dishes we tried were a letdown. My favorite appetizers were the escargots on bone marrow and the Home Salted Brandade, Soft Egg. Both are really delicious. My favorite main courses were the Coq Au Vin, the Suckling Pig Leg and the Char Grilled Cote De Boeuf. The chicken is so tender, fell of the bone and almost melted in your mouth. Same for the suckling pig which was really tender and the skin still crispy. If you’re a beef lover try the Cote De Boeuf. This you have to pre-order as they don’t keep it on stock all the time. This is best for sharing as including bone it comes at 1 Kg! I totally forgot to ask of the origin of the beef but in any case it’s great. Cooked perfectly medium the meat was very juicy and tender. Be careful not to order to many main dishes if you’re going for the Cote De Boeuf. It’s filling! I am a bernaise guy and their bernaise is extremely good. Light and airy, perfectly done. Don’t miss out on the frites that accompany the beef and the potato salad that accompanies the pork! It may be difficult to leave room for dessert but make sure to try the Fresh Baked Madeleines with Mousse au Chocolat. They serve them warm and they are still crispy! The mousse is fluffy and airy. It’s made mainly out of dark chocolate which makes it not so heavy. Is it pricey? Yes, but worth every penny. Repeat factor 150%!

Having been to probably almost all French restaurants in Hong Kong, it hard to pick a few to remember. Bistro du Vin stood out amongst all the others and for one particular reason; its so darn charming! I was invited to a bday party over the weekend and while from the outside, it doesn’t look much since its situated in the middle of two bars, once you step in, its like being back in a café in Paris. The décor is fabulous and the furniture is almost Parisian authentic. There’s old posters, street signs, paintings… pretty much a lot of decorations you will find in a French café… in France! But what about the food? I’ll have to admit that it was quite yummy. We had a a beef stew casserole, pork knuckles and sauerkraut, salmon in tomato sauce which overall were quite delicious and enough as sharing dishes. The host brought his own wine but they let us stay on a Sunday night until 11:30pm. Service was mostly good however I don’t think they were accustom to so many foreigners at once and we were quite loud so thanks for putting up with us. Bistro Du Vin is really a nice place to bring several friends for a night of good conversation over good food and good wine. Def be back.

When I first came to Hong Kong, I was delightfully invited by my friend to try what he thought was the most authentic French food in Hong Kong. Who can say no to that. There are so many western good restaurants in Hong Kong, so I was curious to see if the restaurant was going to have a mainstream commercialised image or a quieter, subdued bistro feel. Located in Kennedy Town near, Tai Hang, lies a little bistro called Bistro Du Vin. When you walk in, you feel like you are in one of the cafes in France. It is small and quaint, packed with people. Before I go on, I want to mention that even to this day, I still think that Bistro Du Vin, consistently offers very tasty and authentic French food. It has not wavered. So, clearly, it is time to write a review for, now also considered, one of MY favourite french Restaurants in Hong Kong. Thanks to my friend long ago. We ordered the bone marrow with escargot on top. This was amazing and already got our palettes tantalising. We also got the Foie Gras terrine. This was served as a cold Foie gras which can feel less oily and fatty,(sometimes I much prefer this especially if drinking with red wine– feels«healthier.») This was so good. I couldn’t believe how fast we finished it with some bread and small talk. Great finger, conversation food. Lastly we got the Bouillabaisse. This was cooked in a le Crueset pot and brought out piping hot. It is a seafood stew to perfection. I loved every last drop of it. The seafood was fresh. The crab was amazing and the shrimps, clams were so sweet. I absolutely could go again the next day and eat it again. To end our meal, we got the soufflé which was a bit on the eggier side but still great. Love this restaurant. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Located in Kennedy town, Bistro Du Vin belongs to a cluster of restaurant sites popping up in the Sai Wan area. A short walk from the harbor front, the area offer a relax atmosphere especially for dinner and weekend brunches. Getting there turns out tho be more complicated them expected, I have personally experience twice that the taxi driver could not find his way to the front door of the restaurant. Apparently there are a lot one way streets in the area and one have to make a lot of turns to get there. The restaurant itself is quite small but very cosy. The charming décor is classic French bistro with lots of French posters, antiques and knickknacks dotted around the place. Clientele is a good mix of expats and locals(western educated of course). Menu is provincial French and offers a lot of plates for sharing. for starters, we ordered the homemade pork pâté, duck pâté and duck rillettes. They very much look like homemade and portion is pretty large and good enough for a few people. The pork and duck pâté was tasty whereas the duck rillettes was a bit too salty for me. We also ordered the brandade with poached egg. The salted cod was mixed with mash potatoes and topped with a poached egg. The egg york gave the the tasty cod/potato mix a rich texture. The last starter was bone marrow with escargot in a garlic herb butter sauce. Tasty tasty tasty! The fattiness of the bone marrow mixed with the sauce went brilliantly with the escargot(but mind the cholesterol count!). For mains, we picked the roasted whole chicken and the beef cheeks braised in red wine sauce. Chicken was nicely roasted with the meat succulent and juicy accompanied by a selection of vegetables. The beef cheek was well cooked with the meat super tender. The red wine sauce will go brilliantly with anything from bread to vegetables. We clean up everything inside the Le Creuset pot in no time. Dessert was a surprise gift so we did not order any. For some reason we were given some freshly baked Madeleines(shell shaped cakes) for tasting and they were warm and fluffy. A perfect way indeed to end our dinner. The bill was surprisingly reasonable and do note that they have an extensive wine list(for a restaurant so small). All in all, go there for an unpretentious, well cooked French meal at a fair price.
