We were at 養和醫院 for Mar Mee’s PET scan, the procedure was supposed to take 3 hours so we decided to take a breakfast break and also for my sistah to show me the lay of the land. While perusing open rice on her phone we decided to try Cheong Kee because of the proximity and the famous«3 inch thick toast» and preserved vegetable and pork strip rice sticks. My sistah told me that it was a food court style establishment in a Chinese style market, it was my first time visiting a place like this and it really wasn’t as unsanitary and disgusting as I expected it to be. The neighbouring THAI Kee waitresses were fairly aggressive in their efforts to snatch customers from Cheong Kee but we were adamant that we were going to eat at Cheong Kee. It was only after I sat down that I realized to my horror the so called famous thick toast has a layer of SUGAR on top of a layer of butter. While it boggles my mind how someone could come up with such a disgusting combo, I also realized Americans pair peanut butter with JAM(they call it jello for some unfathomable reason), so we decided quickly we were not going to try it. They were also out of preserved vegetable, so we couldn’t try the other famous dish. To add insult to injury, they also do not have fish fillet slices that my sister wanted, so we settled on soup macaroni instead. I had 2 over easy eggs with«steak» with my macaroni while my sister settled with SPAM and eggs. My «steak» turn out to be 3 small slices of dry and tasteless slabs of meat that resembled beef jerky, though the eggs were surprisingly tasty. The MSG laden soup base was umami enough and the $ 30 price tag is fairly reasonable. If they actually had the fish or if I had chosen SPAM instead of the«steak», it would probably have been a pretty okay breakfast. I will be generous and give them a 2.5 stars and round it up to 3. 清倉令郎聽湯
