This food is as painful as it is delicious! Order based on spice level, starting with the fairly mild and work your way up as far as you can go. At the top the heat is sweaty-crazy…but it does not stick around. Once you finish a bite the heat immediately dissipates. The flavor is so good that you dive in for more, knowing that you will have to earn the delicious taste by enduring the heat. Remarkable!

This was a mixed bag for me. Some people like spicy food. Some like really spicy food. And some like to show off and prove they can eat inedible spicy food. Chili Fagara is for the last group. It seems their«thing» is to put as many dried chilis as they can on each plate and let you fish through them to find your food. I find it unnecessary, as the dishes are really quite tasty. But if you are the type that simply wants a fair amount of tingly heat, you can easily get an inadvertent mouthful of dried chili that will make an unwelcome reappearance about 8 hours later. So if you’re adept at navigating your way through a dish to extract the good stuff, this is an excellent place, but if you aren’t careful, don’t say I didn’t warn you!

This USED to be our favorite place to eat — however since they opened their new fusion location, Chili Fagara has gone downhill with respect to food quality and preparation. Even when you discuss with the management they do not seem to care. The chili chicken used to be delicious, now they make it with tiny pieces of chicken that are just disgusting grease nuggets, their shrimp was amazing — now small and completely ruined! So sad!!!

Absolutely love this place and the dishes are consistently good! I have a lot of Chinese friends that don’t like this place because they don’t think it’s very traditional and is quite westernised. That may well be true but it doesn’t detract from how good the food is. Having said that, it took me a few visits to work out which were the good dishes, as they have about 6 or 7 that are exceptional and the rest are average. My personal selections are the pearl of the orient, cumin lamb, chilli fagara special chicken(I think they’ve renamed this now), the chilli dumplings and the minced pork in lettuce leaf. It also makes sense to have your beer served in a bowl, as it’s the only way to cool your mouth down.

love their food absolutely delicious! had to order for take away as they were booked. BUT I had to wait close to 45 minutes for my order, just standing around there. that was the only downside

Tiny little 20 seat restaurant in Soho, very nicely decorated and you can hear the jet engine wok going in the kitchen making the super fiery food. Very good flavors and choices and options of building heat levels. The tan tan noodles come in a very tasty peanut sauce with a mild building kick that gets you more after you finish. The black vinegar spare ribs are sticky, unctuous porky treats. Then you begin to enter the face peeling options of spicy dry chicken with chilis, mapo tofu and yu shien eggplant. What really kicked us was the spicy wontons. Tiny little bowls of rice was the insult to injury as you’re sweating profusely at this point.

Incredible food, vegetarian options. First off, there are two branches of this restaurant. Not sure which one I ate at, but I assume both are similar since they’re only two blocks from each other. The food is delicious, probably the best Sichuan I’ve eaten anywhere. In a place like HK, where vegetarian options are hard to come by, this place is an oasis. They also have three different sections of the menu, categorized by spice type and level. Very helpful for those of you who don’t enjoy the burn as much. There’s not much more to say. Go, enjoy the food.

The first time we tried Chili Fagara they were booked up. Apparently that’s just how it is. The second time we got there right as they opened and they graciously made room for us(correctly assuming we’d be out before their reservations started showing up). I’m glad we ate there early. We were in shorts and t shirts, and the first time we tried it i noticed everyone was pretty dressed up. the place is small, maybe 10 – 15 feet wide, and 20 deep. I’m sure they had no idea what to make of us. They’ve got a «way» to eat, i can’t recall but it’s three steps, you order a thing from each. My friend likes food, typically ordering several dishes, that’s what we did here. We ordered Wontons in chili oil. Fried rice — Meh. didn’t finish it, it also came out mid meal so the things we woulda had with it, we missed. A prawn dish that was one of my favorites. They used a dry rub on them, that had a really nice kick. The bowl was full of chili’s. A chicken dish that was good. Not amazing, but good. A beef dish that was too hot. It actually was better a few minutes later when the cooking heat dissipated(it arrived on a sizzling skillet). The most kick of any dish. Another beef dish that was ok, but not stellar. It was better than the other beef one. As we ordered the waiter got this look like«Really??» As the food kept coming out, i got a little worried we’d leave some and look like over ordering idiots. We didn’t :) Ate it all. I’d go back in a heart beat. It’s not cheap, and i’d make a reservation next time. The staff was very friendly.

This is a place for spicy food lovers. Avoid it if you are not one of them. The restaurant is tiny and reservations are recommended. A quick note about the service before I comment on the food: there’s room for improvement. They have poor customer service, in general, as we were coldly greeted and told to finish our meal in an hour. We thought about it for a few seconds and finally decided to go for it, as it had been highly recommended to us. It is a cozy, nicely decorated space, rather dark and cramped(tables are a little too close to each other) which makes it too loud for my taste. But the food, I have to say, we absolutely loved it. The menu has three main sections: ma, la, tang, according to the level of spiciness. We decided to go for the fried prawns, covered in dough, fried and slightly spicy. They made for a great introduction to the next dish… the soft shell crab; served in a big bowl, with so many chilies we couldn’t actually believe our eyes. It’s hard to describe the flavor, besides very very very hot. The crab was extremely soft and juicy and I couldn’t stop eating until we only had the chilies left(and then could appreciate how spicy that was!!!). For those dishes alone, we paid around 300HKD(no drinks) which I think was fair. There were other small dishes, more expensive, and probably more elaborated than ours, but we felt very satisfied and enjoyed the flavors. In conclusion, very tasty food, nice little space but honestly, as I learn about Sichuan food, I will keep on trying new places, before I decide whether I want to come back.
