The first time we came here was with my cousin and her husband. I guess they know the owner so we had a decent experience. The Chiu Chow food was fine even though portions are rather small. Typical Chiu Chow fare with my favorites such as the Deep Fried Shrimp and Crab Balls, Chuen Jiu Chicken, Sweet and Sour Panfried Noodles, Soy Marinated Goose.
Second visit, came with some of my parents’ friends… this time, the experience was a bit different. The owner tried to upsell everything, suggested off-menu items and then charging exorbitantly. Even when my mom said to hold off on the oyster porridge, he brought it. When she told him she wasn’t ready for that and said she told him specifically that she was going to only order it when she wanted it at the end, his response? Well it’s already here.
The upselling left a bad taste in our mouths. The food was decent, but beware of the heavy push on dishes and items you’re not totally aware of and be hit with a crazy check at the end. Therefore, always ask for a la carte portions or «lai pai» even if they tell you it isn’t enough for the table. You can always order more later.
3-stars for the food, 2 for the experience. (2 and ½ stars, am being generous considering the poor business tactics).
