Hong Kong magazine has written great articles as of late about the small, off the beaten path, cool neighborhoods around Hong Kong. It was from one of these recent articles that I read about Cocktail JoJo. Although I do not know how long the sale will be going on, for I think they are simply trying to move merchandise and rotate stock, but right now the entire store is 50% off! I am certain this is a limited time, but I wanted to spread the word. We arrived to this darling gem of a neighborhood and easily found Cocktail Jojo, nestled amongst little food cafes and art galleries. From the warm wooden white washed exterior to the cottage feel of the inside, everything about this place says cute. They have a big selection of coffee table style books, pillows, gift ideas, seasonal items, some shoes and clothes, table linens, dishes, etc. Various gift and home accessories. Tim was working when we arrived yesterday and he was young, friendly, outspoken and wanted to assist. I walked out with a great Tachen coffee table book about advertising campaigns and marketing of the 1950’s in the US, a killer Michael Jackson 5CD box set and a darling little sushi necklace. This place is all that is great about«small business» and exactly why Hong Kongers needs to support more small business in their neighborhoods.

I’m allergic to cats but I loved this cat-inspired lifestyle shop. Housed in a tremendously tiny space, Cocktail JoJo is packed with gifts(treat yourself, or a friend) of all kinds: from cartoony pajamas to stuffed toys, aprons, jewelry, bags and dishes. After extensive browsing in this Moon Street shop, I took home a blue tote with a white feather print that folds up nicely for my travels. After much internal debate, I didn’t buy a backpack I liked a lot(but have considered going back for it on my next visit to Hong Kong). Shopping in Wan Chai’s Starstreet Precinct(comprised of Sun, Moon and Star Streets) should be on your list if you love eclectic retail experiences and feeling like you’ve stumbled upon places no one else knows about. Cocktail JoJo’s cat loving owner has a keen eye, which you should take advantage of as you look at the many unique wares he’s sourced and sells here.

Hidden in the back streets of Wan Chai, Sun and Moon Street seems to be THE place for cool, fun and hip stores. When I saw the sign for Cocktail Jojo I had assumed it was a bar. On closer inspection I realised it was a terrific shop filled with(mostly locally designed) clothes, jewelry, nic-nacs, homewares and gift items. In other words, it was my dream kind of shop! The store attendant here was really friendly and helpful. Sometimes it annoys me when shop staff pay top much attention and fawn all over me clearly motivated by a sale, but here the focus was on revealing cool items and having a chat. Hey, guess what? This kind of attention is the kind that makes me want to buy things! I walked out with a really cool broach for a gift, a colorful necklace for myself and a sadness because I didn’t buy the monkey and banana pyjamas that I’d eyed off.
