Very good dim sum of the money! We were only in HK for 3 days and I am glad we discovered this gem. We only had to wait 10 mins to be seated around 2pm. Pork buns and lotus leaf rice were the best!

Easily the best dim sum in Hong Kong. I liked it even better than the venerable Tim Ho Wan, Din Tai Fung and Dim Dim Sum.

Fast paced local food around the corner from the hotel. Good quality of ingredients and reasonably priced. Lots of awesome dumplings served with tea(no free water). It could’ve gotten a slightly higher review of some tissues were available for the less elegant eaters. I’d eat here again.

In a hood saturated with Dim Sum spots, Dim Sum Square along Hillier is a quick and easy option featuring a handful of well executed dishes. Everything is made to order and the food is ordered a la carte fashion instead of push carts; a trend that has become the preference for Hong Kongers to emphasize freshness and emphasize taste. Thankfully the latter is not a problem for this establishment. It certainly looks like a classier Hong Kong Style Café than any kind of tea house, and most Dim Sum folks would agree. This is not a banquet style home, but a more modern, western friendly version. It is small, yet good enough to house 35 people on any given morning /afternoon. A nice tidbit is they still serve Dim Sum in the evening in case anyone is thinking of shrimp rice noodles for dinner. The comparisons to Tim Ho Wan are inevitable, due to the similar menu and gringo vibe. Spoiler alert: bbq pork buns(叉燒包) aren’t quite as good but still tasty in their own right. Another good bun, the egg custard buns(流沙包) are wonderfully runny and sweet. I am also a fan of the minced beef w/egg over rice(窩蛋牛肉飯) and I can get behind the lotus leaf rice(糯米雞). As always, I’m not a fan of the soup dumplings(小籠包) and most of the rice noodle wraps(腸粉) are a tad too silky for me. I haven’t had a lot of luck with the glutinous pork dumplings(鹹水角) or the pork spare ribs(排骨). This is a small minority portion of the menu, as most everything else is really solid. The English speaking staff and quick patron turnover are appealing. Most Dim Sum lovers and beginners can revel in their picture menu, though the prices are not crazy but certainly not cheap for Dim Sum. When in a pinch and in Sheung Wan, one can certainly fill up at a place like Dim Sum Square.

Good food. Get the lotus pork and rice for sure. The custard filled glutinous rice balls were underwhelming — the taste was good but the custard was gritty feeling. Overall a great experience.

Great for lunch, there’s usually a wait for a table but it’s worth it. Every dish was on point. Steamed or baked pork buns, rice rolls, lotus rice, xia long bao, etc. All delicious. A very satisfying dim sum experience.

Is there nothing more Chinese than going out for dim sum? Of course, you have to make sure it’s good! Well, Dim Sum Square is definitely good. Yes, Tim Ho Wan is nearby, but this place is cheaper, there is a shorter wait, and it has a pretty solid menu with many of the same items. I hate that when I went in it was the usual HK service, but that’s to be expected by this point. At 11AM on a weekday, there was no wait to be seated. The tables are communal but I didn’t really have to share my space with a lot of people since not many people eat dim sum solo anyway. I ordered the char siu bao, har gao, and fried turnip cake. Don’t order the fried turnip cake unless you want the oiliness and enjoy it soft. I prefer mine with more crunch but I’m picky like that. The har gao was standard and the char siu bao was yummy. If I liked dim sum more, I would come more often, especially if I had a big group to come with. Overall, it’s a good place at a fair price. I wouldn’t have any qualms coming back so long as I get to sample the menu more!

Always reliably good Dim Sum when you most need it. Crispy BBQ Pork buns are my fave and make sure you order the custard buns when you’re nearly finished so that you get them as desert. They’re freshly cooked with runny custard oozing out — scrumptious! If it wasn’t for the standard HK service(ie they’re virtually walking away as they drop the dishes onto your table), Dum Sum Square would be pushing 5stars in terms of value for money.

Delicious. The crispy pork buns are not to be missed. Buttery on the outside and barbecue perfection on the inside. Usually there is a line but I’ve waited on longer lines for dim sum and this wait time isn’t too bad. Food comes out quick and fresh. Nothing disappointed. Will definitely be coming back.

Nice. Some of it was a little on the weird side for my tastes, esp. for a breakfast option, but that’s just me. Might have been more appropriate for later in the day, once your stomach is awake. Place was packed, but we didn’t have to wait for a seat.

Best dim sum(out of countless) I’ve had in HK. Bbq pork buns aren’t too be missed. The prawn and veggie dumplings were also great. Super fresh and light.

This will get my lowest rating of al the places we ate during our trip and maybe there is a correlation there were also the most tourists we have seen the whole trip. I wish Unilocal would show me my pictures while I type this for you as I need a visual reminder. The pork bun is the sweetest we tried. SO sweet that the sweet lovin husband said too much. Myself and another table both did not finish one of our dim sum. It was bad/off…I did enjoy the crispy spring roll but would not go out of my way to stop by again. I prefer Tim Ho Wan as these two are comparable in menu.

Really good pork buns and shrimp dumplings. Lots of variety, fast service, easy to order in English. A really good dim sum place for westerners and locals alike. Lived in Hong Kong for a year and frequented it frequently, never disappointed.

Sure, Tim Ho Wan serves some solid dim sum, but I think the dim sum here holds it’s own! Just like THW, they serve barbeque pork buns here, and I found them just as good. Another dish I liked were the custard buns. When you bite into them, a yolk-like mixture oozes out. Just be careful as it could be a bit too hot and can spill all over the place! Shumai and all other dishes met expectations. Surprisingly, xiao long bao is also on the menu. I found it just okay, but if you come from a place where these babies are not easily accessible then definitely get an order! The prices are very affordable, they have strong AC, and they’re right off Queens Road Central. It’s no wonder why there’s always a queue here for lunch!

Sweet and crunch BBQ pork buns? You could get them here too, other than Tim Ho Wan! While the line isn’t short during lunch hours, it was still better than how long you have to wait for THW, in my opinion at least. This Dim Sum place is located in Sheung Wan, which is where I was spending most of my times in HK this time. So, it’s really convenient to get good food around the hood that you spend most of your time at. We were glad that we came here slightly earlier than 12, because once the clock strikes 12, the restaurant literally filled up immediately, and you would see the line starting already. A few things that I really enjoyed here would be the BBQ pork bun, chicken feet and Siew Mai. If you would dare to try exotic food like chicken feet, theirs is really pretty good. Price wise, I think they are being pretty fair too. It was six of us together and the bill was less than 300HKD, which is what I wouldn’t complain about while one’s in Hong Kong Island, right? I might try somewhere next for the next time though, as there are so many good food in Hong Kong, and I just need to keep exploring!

Reasonable price but boy do they treat their customers like crap if something goes wrong. Dim sum is average at best. Not sure why people are queuing to get in. On the weekend get there before 12:30 to avoid quue.

Dim Sum Square is a perfect place to have a quick but tasty lunch! The restaurant was full when we arrived but we didn’t wait too long to have a table. My favorite dish was the crispy spring roll in the kind of rice paste. I don’t remember the name but I highly recommend to try it!

Definitely not bad, and definitely good for travelers wanting some dim sum. No, it isn’t as authentic as the dim sum cafeterias with pushcarts, but it’s certainly more efficient and(dare I say) slightly more western. We had the spring rolls(which were nothing special), the char siu bao(baked, but more like a sweet pastry than the flaky bun crust), custard buns(nothing special), glutinous rice balls(fine, wouldn’t get again), and cheong fun(too much noodle). I mean, it’s all good, and all fine, and very easy to order. Just a note though — order EVERYTHING you want because once they took the menu away, that was all we could get. No mango pudding for me :( They also charge $ 3HKD for tea, which was slightly annoying, because come on. IT’S TEA. And one of the guys seemed annoyed that we paid with a $ 500 bill(it’s all we had from the ATM). Otherwise, easy to order, good food, and not a bad place to go for an early brunch.

All the dim sum, please! That’s what I felt like I had on my first visit. I was greedy and ordered way too much food since the prices are so reasonable, but I’m happy I got to try a bit of everything. + Crispy pork buns: a touch too sweet for my tastebuds, but still so good! Moving forward, I should just order them as dessert. They’re a carb-lovers dream, with a crispy, slightly sweet crust and a liberal sauce filling. They’re comparable to the ones you’ll wait in a longer queue for at Tim Ho Wan, so just come to Dim Sum Square for a more local, less touristy type of experience. Trust. + XLB(soup dumplings): these were quite good! Much better than the ones you’d get at say, Crystal Jade, though you should still visit Din Tai Fung for xiao long bao as they’re truly their specialty item. + Spring rolls: pretty basic. They’re deep fried and arrive piping hot, so I’d suggest waiting a solid 5 minutes before proceeding. Be warned! I did enjoy them, but because I over-ordered, decided to only have a few bites and save some precious stomach real estate. + Mango custard: eh, I’ve had better. It didn’t taste very fresh and it’s not something I’d repeat. + Custard buns: these were a bit too runny for my taste. I was expecting more of a custard filling, but I’m guessing the filling is simply hot egg yolk mixed with sugar. I did enjoy the squishy buns, though! Because Dim Sum Square is a popular destination for both locals and tourists(cheers for the English subtitles), you might have to queue for 5 – 15 minutes but the line moves quickly. I can’t wait to return; there’s still so much to try!

Favorite old school dim sum joint in Sheung Wan. It’s always packed and for good reason! Great dim sum for super cheap! don’t forget to go early to line up to beat the crowd or eat after the lunch crowd leaves.

Decided to go here after hearing how crowded Tim Ho Wan was. I went with my family around 11 am. It was very spacious. The food here was excellent. Some standouts include the crispy BBQ pro buns and the rice with meats wrapped in lotus leaf. Our family of four was full with only $ 24USD worth of food, talk about cheap! Staff were really friendly and kept coming with hot tea refills. One thing that stood out was they were polite even though I didn’t know how to speak Cantonese, which is not the case in many places here. I spoke in Mandarin with them and they were fluent in it. Would definitely recommend for dim sum!

Very busy spot, clearly has a following of people/tourists/locals who know about this place, be prepared for a little bit of a wait. We had to wait about 10 minutes around 11:45AM on a Sunday. I am not a dim sum connoisseur, so I do not have a bar to judge this by so much. Dim sum was quite good. Menu easy to read, even if you do not speak the language, includes photos on many of the items. They understand they are feeding non-Chinese too, so they have made it easy on themselves and their non-Chinese speaking patrons. They have take out option, which we will do sometime, since we live in the hood. We thought the prices were very reasonable. We had like five dishes and the bill was $ 120HKD. The quality of food was there, the price was right, the wait was OK… we would go back… as long as the wait is not too long.

This place is good but I think Tim Ho Wan at Hong Kong station is million times better. The wait was shorter here but I did only come at 3 pm when dim sum is pretty much over. Everything I ate here just made me think of THW. I guess if you’re in the area just check this place out. BTW Tim Ho Wan didn’t pay me to write this review!

You can have dim sum at night here! Service was slow here at night, and there are actually a lot of foreigners since this is sort of close to LKF and SoHo and Central. Dim sum after drinking actually sounds pretty good, so this place does get packed! I liked their BBQ Pork Buns with the crispy and sweet top layer. The inside had a lot of sauce as opposed to other places which just had dry cha siu. So good and I’d totally come and buy some to walk and explore HK. Chicken Feet was good since it was flavored right and the shumai was piping hot and better than the other places I had dim sum with my family(sorry but it’s true). We also got the minced beef and egg rice, which tasted like the not-so-greasy versions you can get at cha chaan teng’s. This had a lot of rice and the soy sauce was really salty, but this was still good and filled our tummies. Obviously more expensive than normal dim sum places, but if you’re comparing it to the ones that are nicer and a bit more expensive, it’s not too bad price-wise. Ordering is super easy and the ladies are relatively nice and can speak a bit of English!

I have been here twice: before and after their renewal. The taste continues to be fabulously the same, but somehow with a newer and bigger facility, somehow they lost the original charm of that old and tiny shop that it used to be. You don’t have to master Cantonese to make your orders, since they give you a piece of paper with their options written in English. Crispy pork buns, custard filled bums are among my favorite, but the best thing continues to be the fact that they are opened for dinner, differently from others, as dim sum is supposed to be breakfast or light snacks with tea.

My second favorite dim sum place in Hong Kong(Tim Ho Wan in IFC Mall has to be my favorite because of the amazing pork buns, and for the location too). Although you *must* get here right at 10am(brunch anyone?) because it fills up quickly. Another thing that I like about this place is after the meal here, it’s right down the road from Barista Jam — another good coffee place in Hong Kong which supposedly is run by an Australian.

Amazing Yum Cha and Dim Sum. Some local expat friends brought us here for Brunch. As with all popular places, if you dont get there before 12pm youre going to have to queue for a while. I had never tried Chicken’s feet, but now I quite like them. They are done excellently here. Stand out dish for me by far was crispy fried BBQ pork buns. Steamed BBQ pork rice rolls were delicious also. Service is super speedy, because they obviously need to have a high customer turn over at tables. Reasonably priced, for excellent service and food. Highly reccomend.
