It was the décor/vibe of Fish & Meat that I liked the most. It has an «urban/dimly lit & candled/low ceillinged/wood meets metals/old farm to table barn» feel. There are windows that open up the space in the back and it appears you could even sit outside if the weather was nice. There is a long bar that has a warm feel… the kind of spot you want to meet a friend to have a drink and an in-depth conversation. Often in the first few minutes you have a gut feeling about a place and the ambiance and design was a solid 5 for us. Melvin our waiter was informative and fun. He continued to set the tone of a solid experience at Fish & Meat. They advertise that items are designed to share, but I think you can do it this way or just order what you want. Some portions seemed big, but others like normal. I think the statment that things are designed to share is overreaching a bit. I kind of not much of a sharer, so if you are this way too, know you can just order your app and meal and it would be all good. I enjoyed everything our table had(for we went the sharing route, which then seemed like super small tastes on everything… thus my statement that maybe not really designed for sharing). Monkfish, pork, caesar salad, tuna, mozzerella & peaches & tomatoes. The Monkfish was probably my personal favorite because it is cooked clean and firm to taste. We did not get pasta, but everything I read indicates we should try this the next time we go. Good wine(a touch overpriced for actual cost, but such is the case with restaurant mark ups). Someone at our table had a cocktail(the one with cucumbers and jalepenos… it was so fantastic and a 3 out of 10 on the spicy scale… it was fresh and the flavors all just burst through this drink).
The only odd thing was when I called the day before to make a reservation for 8PM on a Sunday, they asked if we could come at 8:15PM specfically stating that it would give them some time to turn over the table. When we walked into the restaurant though and checked in with the hostess, if was apparent there was not another table occupied. It was slow and almost empty. So why the statement of come at 8:15PM the day before? Just a little perplexing. If you are having a staffing issue, no need to tell me, just let me come at 8PM and avoid me scratching my head upon arrival. We will go back. It is a cool spot!

A tester !

I’ve been walking past this place for months now and finally stopped in for dinner last night. So glad I finally bothered to try it! All of the fish dishes are deliciously prepared; we had the seabass and whiting fish. The oysters were phenomenal as well and served with a tasty(and spicy!) watermelon granita instead of the usual horseradish/cocktail sauce concoction. Pastas are freshly made, and for those steering clear of gluten, there are dozens of options for you on the dinner menu, and even the dessert menu — including a pavlova and a light-as-a-cloud mascarpone cheesecake. the décor is rustic and western but modern and chic. lighting is dim and heavy on the edison bulbs; light fixtures over the tables are made from mason jars and rope. waitstaff wears these beautiful reddish/brown leather aprons. cement floors and wooden ceilings. oh, and there’s a lovely looking outdoor balcony overlooking wyndham street. bonus points for the fussball table and chess board in the little bar-nook area. apparently they have a great sunday brunch that i’ll be checking out as soon as time allows. overall, a cozy little spot with amazing food and great ambience. looking forward to visiting this place often!

Having been craving for this gem before heading back to Kong. Though it seems local guests prefer their meat. And the artisan mixodolodgy it presents had been credited. we start with one Old Fashion and house made lemonade. The hangover was cured by the lemonade ;) my cocktail is relatively light with too much ice. uri, salmon bruchetta as the starter. my friend doubt the freshness of the uri. but i quite enjoyed the piece, particular the well rolled rice wrap piece. The pork belly is heavy that we both failed that. Fatty is never for girls! the grilled brocolli is a nice sider. The lemon tart used too much syrup which dissapoints me…

We had the watermelon tuna. It was quite fresh. New taste to me because I never had watermelon on top of fish before. But we also had the veal and the pork belly that really changed our perception about this place. I would have thought the pork belly is a price of fat but turns out it wasn’t so. The crispyness of the pork skin is to die for. The veal was okay. A little tough for my teeth but not as good as the pork belly. We also had the asparagus with truffle sauce. Its thin and not your regular American asparagus. Not much of a wow factor. It was just asparagus… Décor is dark and noisy but manageable. We sat at the bar table looking at the chefs make the dishes. It was a little hot sometime because the oven isn’t too far from our seat and you can feel the heat.

Fish & Meat(F&M) has received a lot of hype ever since it opened but a table at the hottest restaurant of the moment costs a pretty penny. The name might sound overly simplistic but don’t be fooled. Freshness is the name of the game here and that ubiquitous term«farm to table» cooking directly translates to «get first-choice produce from a trusted local connection». I particularly like restaurants that practice getting ingredients from sustainable sources. My dining style is to sample the namesake of the restaurant, which meant that I ordered a fish dish and a meat dish. Sometimes I try the cheapest item on the menu, just to see how they preach their«honest to goodness» cooking. Since I had prepared adequate money for this dining experience, I refrained from doing my normal practice. The décor was intimately rustic with a classy sense of atmosphere — not Caprice classy but a great-dinner-waiting-to-happen classy. However, I found the tables too close to each other, which accidental eavesdropping occurs. As if the namesake wasn’t simple enough, the menu was divided into names of «small», «large», and«sides». As a group, we opted for sharing plates starting with the roasted Italian sea bass. The sea bass was firm and went great with the nutty Romesco sauce. The fennel was a nice touch as it was my first time to taste it. Next up was the meat dish: medium-rare Kobe prime beef rib at a whopping 32 ounces(!) with a price tag to match. I can still remember how utterly tender the beef was. We were glad to part with our money on this one as it was the most legit beef we had ever tasted in our existence. My only quip is it could have done without the salsa verde and just went with the Béarnaise sauce. Do yourself a favor and make sure you order this when you dine at F&M. Fish and Meat is one of those restaurants where you bring your family for a no-fuss excellent dinner or to impress your date with your wit and charm, not to mention the great food and ambiance. The price tag was heavy with this one but I say, it is money well spent. Reservation are highly recommended, compulsory even, so make sure you book ahead of time.
