Harbour Grand Hong Kong

What I liked!
The introduction emails the hotel sent that detailed how to get the hotel, any promotions they were running in their restaurants along with weather forecast for the few days around your stay. I contacted the hotel with questions about their airport transfer service and their concierge Anson sent an amazing list that detailed 5 different options that you could use to get there (limousine, 7 seater van, airport bus, airport train, taxi) with estimated costs and expected travel times along with which 3 you could charge directly to your room. This is probably the most helpful way to start your stay I’ve had! They gave me a free room upgrade to harbour club floor (40^th floor) but sadly that didn’t give you access to harbour club facilities which was confusing and could have been explained on checkin. The staff were super friendly and helpful but would have liked a bit more personal interaction/​conversations with them, they could have been a bit more relaxed in their interactions. Free WiFi for guests? The area is a great spot for exploring Hong Kong as it’s just a few minutes walk from Fortress Hill station and still somewhat of an authentic area of Hong Kong.
What I disliked
The amount of noise the building construction next door was creating during the day was a bit annoying, but this is a They have free WiFi but it’s confusing as it states you have to pay for it but they don’t charge you for it they should clarify that a bit. Sadly the pool was closed for winter and you can’t go outside for this reason, so the smoking area was the front of the hotel which wasn’t the most pleasant experience when entering or exiting the hotel.

Traveling on business for the third time in Hong Kong, I solely based my decision of the hotel on TA. Following the advice of others, I selected the «Club» level as a matter of convenience with breakfast included. The views are stunning, I got a great view of Causeway Bay, no construction noise at all, then again I was usually out by 8am.
Here’s my story… after a long day of business in Dongguan, including three hour trip back to the hotel, I was exhausted to the point of not even knowing my name, the only thing I could think of was going back to the 41^st floor, then figuring what I was going to do about a very late dinner. The restaurants were booked at 10pm, I didn’t have the energy to go out, and not wanting to sit in my room for dinner, Manny on the night shift at the Club Lounge cheerfully suggested room service delivered to the lounge, YES! No hassle of formal dining yet a delicious meal. Manny must have seen the empty look in my eyes as she had my meal rushed up while I unwound with a few beers from the lounge. This was truly the antidote for a rough day.
Grace at the day time desk really started my morning off right, greeting me as I went for my post workout espresso then a nice breakfast later. These guys really make the difference in the hotel, well worth the additional cost of the upgrade. I will be back here whether it be business or holiday. Those guys at the big chain hotels don’t have nothing on the group here, they’re really special.

Staff was amazingly helpful and courteous.
The breakfast buffet here is not up to par with the hotel I would not recommend it. The rooms have gorgeous north views of the harbour.

* star– for room. Amazing views, very clean, really comfortable beds, roomy.
* star– for hotel. Beautiful design, great restaurant, fantastic views, public areas spotless. Loved the harp player in lobby and crystal Christmas Tree.
* star– for staff. The kindness, knowledge, and professionalism of the staff give this hotel a world class feel.
* star– for close walk to subway station
This hotel is a good value if staying on HK Island side.
But…
I can not give this hotel a fifth star. It is not the fault of the hotel or its staff. It’s just that the hotel is sitting right in the middle of a MAJOR construction project! It is unbelievable the size of the project. Left, right, and in front of hotel!!! Street is filled with giant, GIANT, construction trucks and equipment.
Plus, The neighborhood is really ugly and dirty.
My advice, if you want an amazing hotel at a pretty good price on the HK side, stay here now. Once the other construction projects are completed and the area polished up, bet you prices go way up. Just saying.

Excellent service and value. Free happy hour for club members. Well worth the cost. Awesome breakfast. Slow Internet and elevators. Very nice views. A bit away from all the action but a cheap can ride solved that.

This hotel is most definitely up there with the best in the world. I’d recommend upgrading to the harbour club rooms as this includes free drinks and nibbles at night. As well as an open bar during the day (free), free wifi, free tea coffee and you’ll be treated like a king or queen. Definitely consider it next time you’re staying in Hong Kong.

I visited the Harbour Grand Hong Kong just about half a year after it´s opening. This way you can experience the good and the not-​so-​good things during your stay.
The good:
The rooms/​furniture were of course brand new.
Due to it´s location at the edge of the water near Fortress Hill, the hotel offers great views of the whole of Hong Kong. There are not many places that give you such a complete panoramic view of the Island AND Kowloon.
The restaurant, breakfast lounge and top-​floor bar also make great use of the spectacular skyline.
The decent:
A great panoramic-​view always comes at a natural cost: You´re usually far away from what you see! While metro-​stations are near-​by, you can´t deny that the Hotel is a bit remoced from the busy madness the city. Some people might find this idea attractive, but I prefer a hotel that´s right in the heart of the beast! The true Hong Kong-​experience should begin as soon as you leave and enter the safe haven of your accomodation.
The not-​so-​good:
To be fair, these points are a mix of personal experience and my individual taste. Your milage may vary.
I did not like the overall style of the Hotel and I found it lacking in atmosphere.
The Suite was almost cramped with bulky, plush furniture, to a point that we had problems stashing our luggage.
The lobby –on the other hand– tries to impress you with an enormous space and almost totalitarian design, yet it totally lacks a sense of welcome and charme.
This was also evident during check-​in which felt more like an interrogation. You don´t have to ask me three times if it is OK to share a room with my same-​sex travel companion. Once should be enough (if at all!)
All in all: The experience was not a bad one and especially for the money you pay, you get a lot of bling (which might actually be exactly what the designers wanted to achieve).
If you want something more stylish, upscale and central you might consider something else.
