As with most things in Hong Kong, family style eating here is king. The restaurant is located on the 6th floor of this huge mall smack dab across from an Outback Steakhouse, so it’s good for a post-shopping refuel. In order to be seated, you have to request a ticket. We had to wait quite a while, so we started off grabbing a few drinks at the Outback because they had a bar. No rules, just right… because they had a full bar. There are no carts in this dim sum joint(at least when we came) and grabbed a few items from each page of the extensive menu. Tried the fried won ton skins, stuffed bell peppers, these really dense balls of gluten, dumplings, buns, lots of rice, flat noodles with beef and veggies, vermicelli with octopus and pork, and short ribs(tasted like chicken). Overall, it was pretty good. I had no idea that ordering a glass of water with your meal wasn’t a common thing, so if you do ask, be prepared for the perplexed looks from the waitstaff. It’s worth noting that we came with people that spoke the language, so that helped. Four chopsticks up!

Part of the train station complex this 6th floor restaurant is huge with an upscale presentation. Had abalone and duck feet to try something new and a casserole of fish pork mushrooms and tofu. I liked the mix a lot and will be back one of these days. I am more inclined to street style food but sometimes you have to do the fine dining!

This is one of my favorite spots to go. They have the carts that come around and on the carts there are placards in Chinese and English so even if you are in the midst of chatting, you can glimpse and see if there is anything you want to eat. Food: Quality is pretty good and there is also a good variety as they have a few innovative dim sum options. Service: Gets a bit slower when they are busy. But generally even if there is a wait for seats it isn’t too long since the restaurant is quite big. It’s a clean restaurant with clean restrooms. A good spot to bring guests to as well if they are worried about cleanliness.

every time i come back to HK, i always come here. this is my favoriate dim sum place. they have Dan San, which is the fried egg twister with syrup, a very traditional dish. although it’s not so much as the traditional style that was supposed to be much heavier and more texture, at least i can find it in Jade Garden. they also have another traditional Ma Tsai, which is a square dessert. Other dim sum is also quite decent. i also ordered crystal buns with red bean and egg custards, which are quite good. it’s my first time to try this out. veggies, if it’s boiled, are only $ 33, a lot cheaper than garlic stir fried $ 78. i don’t understand why adding garlics is so much more expensive. overall this is a decent dim sum place.

There are so many good dim sum places in Hong Kong, I feel weird giving out so many 5 stars… maybe it’s because I’m a deprived American. But credit is given where credit is due: Jade Garden gets my high score. It’s a beautiful restaurant. Bright and lively, you get to eat among many retirees who get there early(like 8am or earlier) and sit forever as they slowly sip on their morning tea and read the paper. Absolutely no rush whatsoever by the restaurant people aka get there early or be prepared to wait. Despite to laxed dim sum atmosphere that’s so opposite of that in NY, I appreciate this culture. Brunch should be pleasant and leisurely. Solid dim sum with respect to HK expectations. Love their bbq pork buns… comes small with a lil sweet crust and juicy not-too-fatty pork fillings. Yummers!
