Lai Chi Kok Park Skatepark

First pro skate park in HK, facilities ok and many skaters! Good for skateboarding and rollerblading!

This is one of the first proper skateparks in Hong Kong. It is easily accessed via MTR or other means of transport because it is in the centre of Kowloon.
Located inside Lai Chi Kok Park, there are other facilities nearby that would be useful for anyone that visits the park; such as Toilets & changing rooms with showers; they even have lockers in the changing room (just ask the office situated next to the changing rooms for a locker key) — having a refreshing shower after a session on a summer day is one of the best features of this park.
Water fountains near the entrance of the skatepark & also near the changing rooms & vending machines right next to the skatepark keep you hydrated. Many restaurants & convenience stores/​supermarkets in near by Mei Foo estate as well.
The park has security there for access control, if you need help please don’t hesitate to call on them. Many occasions when someone got hurt, they were the first to get you first aid.

Located near the first private housing estate in the city, Mei Foo Sun Chuen, Mei Foo Skatepark is the first «true» skatepark in Hong Kong. Back then, the most popular skating spots were the enclosure of Immigration Tower and waterfront promenade in Tsim Sha Tsui near the New World Renaissance Hotel. Why were they popular? They were secluded spots and was the meeting place for the first generation of HK’s skateboarders, with most well into their 40’s now.
These spots lacked the safety standards and features of a skatepark, such as half-​pipes and bowls. Because of this, responsible skaters (such as Warren Stuart, known in the local skateboarding community as WZA) took it upon themselves to convince the government and the Leisure and and Cultural Services Department to finally build a skatepark in Hong Kong. Now, 12 years since its inception, Hong Kong has now more than 8 skateparks scattered across the city.
Mei Foo Skatepark may be its popular name but officially it is known as «Lai Chi Kok Park Skateboard Arena». Pretty lengthy, that one. I first came to this skatepark when I was in high school, back in ²⁰⁰⁷⁄₂₀₀₈. I was freely skating, practicing how to do simple tricks (manual and ollie). Just recently, helmets were made compulsory due to safety concerns. A lot of people didn’t want to buy a helmet let alone wear one, but those are the rules now and I honestly believe they are for the better.
The park also caters to BMX riders and rollerskaters. Features of the park include handrails for practicing grind tricks, a funbox (a concrete box with a ramp) to practice aerial tricks, quarter pipes and a street plaza for general free skating. At night, the park is illuminated by floodlights so you can still nail tricks down even at sundown.
During official skateboarding events, Mei Foo is utilized as the premier location. However, with the inclusion of larger and better constructed skateparks (with bowl parks) in the city, that may soon change. However, it will always remain a favorite spot for many a skateboarder due to its history and convenient location.
