Lamma Island — Hong Kong is a site worth seeing. The boat ride over is beautiful and once you’re on the island there is no motor traffic, but lots of great little shops with locally crafted goods among other goods that are imported. There are lots of restaurants as well. And of course walking paths and trails. There is a place to go swimming and relax if desired. I didn’t find it particularly appealing as it was immediately abutting a nuclear plant, but that is just my perspective. Lots of folks were bathing and having a fabulous time. There were public restrooms for use as well. Several places for wonderful photo shots, a bit of history, and ferries/boats traveled to the island on a schedule which you could figure out either beforehand or once you got to the ferry platform on the island. Sometimes the ferry got quite full so getting there a bit early to get a seat would be to your advantage(unless that’s not of importance to you, which is your prerogative). Definitively a fun time. I had a local colleague that spoke the native language so I was lucky, but I tend to venture out nonetheless. Even if you don’t have a native speaking Comrade to assist I would encourage the trip. In my opinion — Lamma Island is a place I would Highly recommend for a day trip, a self proclaimed world traveler.

Petite randonnée sur cette Isle avec un chemin proche de l autoroute mais avec de beau paysage. A faire et a refaire pour ce mettre au vert à éviter le week end.

This is one of my must-do’s while visiting Hong Kong. I love taking the ferry to this island. The great thing is that you can take the ferry to one port(either Yung Shue Wan or Sok Kwu Wan), hike the train, and then return via the ferry from the other end. There are more ferries going into and out of Yung Shue Wan than Sok Kwu Wan because that’s the busier village. The hike is all paved roads and trails covering probably about two miles. There are some steep sections so your cardiovascular and leg muscles do get a chance to get some working out. For me, this can be an all-day walk because there are so many great stopping points to sit, relax, and enjoy the water view. If you’re up for a nice seafood dinner, there are plenty of chances for it on both ends of the island after getting off the ferry or before taking one back to the main Hong Kong island.

Easy 1 hour nature walk(3 miles) on paved road. Watch out for bicycles on the road. Take ferry from Central pier 4 to Yung Shue Wan on Lamma Island. Walk through restaurant road, buy some dry fish, shrimp, squids for snacks, Make a left at the main intersecting road. The main road it is not that big, I missed it and went all the way to the end. Luckily, found the postman to ask for directions. He was very kind to say«Stay on the main road, don’t go on the small roads which will get you lost.» Along the trail, I saw old buildings which were people’s homes; snack stalls(mochi wrapped around fresh mango, egg tart with flaky crust); scenic ocean views; forest with various kinds of trees; tofufa shack; clean beaches with nice temp water(toilets at beach is the squatting type); old ladies selling fresh tea or juice; caves dug out by Japanese during WWII; a remodeled temple; didn’t see any monkeys. Have a seafood meal at Sok Kwu Wan before taking a ferry back to Central Hong Kong. What a nice break from the hustling city!
