The cashier is fr hell. I had been there more than once. When I paid, I have tried as much as possible to unload some coins or to avoid them, asking for paper notes instead. However, depending on her mood & her«stockpile,» one time, she unloaded 5 $ 5 coins with me. There are 2 other LFK’s, I would veto this shop forever, unless I have loads of coins to discharge.

The other day, I came here for a late lunch. We were being seated across some guy who finished his meal and just playing with his phone. The waitress did that with good intention to let us have the whole table soon. However, that guy just seat there for ages as if this cheap congee place is a Starbucks. But the waitress was very kind to seat us to another table where we would have better privacy. This was not my first time here. But perhaps this is the nearest place for me to have good congee. The congee rice indeed was very soft and smooth. The meats also cooked very well. The serving temperature was also perfect. I ordered braised beef noodle both time. Not as good as the famous place around the corner. But good enough and with less of a lineup, I might prefer going to here instead. The highlight of this place is the fish paste ball. And they would deep fry it for you as you order. They come served hot and full of fish flavor and chewy texture. I will come back just for that. To sum up about this place: fast, cheap, good service, congee and fish ball. If these are what you want, you know where to get it near central.

Central and Sheung Wan are very interesting places. You can find highrise, modern commercial buildings on one end while in between those skyscrapers, some small shops from the old days remained more or less unchanged along the course of history and Law Fu Kee is one of these places. Standing amongst the tall buildings, the storefront of this small eatery is rather neat; the color of the banner has not yet faded. However, you can tell it was from the old days judging by the décor and the items on the menu. Old time hits and favorites such as mud carp balls served with preserved clams and deep fried wonton are prepared in the most authentic way possible. Looking for something more filling? The name of the shop is pretty self explanatory — congee and noodles expert; you know they must do them things right. The Cantonese people require the congee to be smooth and velvety and Law Fu Kee sure mastered the skill in making the perfect bowl. The congee base was rich and flavorful, since the meats were cooked separately and only mixed to the boiling congee briefly before served, the meats were just cooked and stay perfectly tender. For the congee with pig’s liver that I have ordered, the liver still remained a little crunch to it which is a good indication of not over cooked. Better still is that the shop opens till quite late, so it is quite perfect for a quick snack before hitting the bars near Lan Kwai Fong or Sheung Wan; just a kind reminder for all party goers, never go to a bar or a club with your stomach empty~
