Maritime Square

Maritime Square– this is a mall that actually brought Tsing Yi on to the map, literally.
That’s because before this place was built there was no MTR connection into Tsing Yi and it was just an island off the shore from Tsuen Wan; notorious for bad traffic jams whenever something happened on the two bridges linking it to the mainland.
Nowadays though, this mall has transferred from what we once treated as a neighborhood mall into now a semi-​up market place to be. There was a time here when they had so much space on the top floor that there was a full size mock up of «old Hong Kong» with antique shops and street scenes. None of that nowadays; the mall has been extensively remodeled and every square inch is now left for shops and more shops. Thanks to the influx of tourists the main shops on the podium level are all high spending jewelers, cosmetic shops and the ever present pharmacies.
Food wise there is plenty to choose from but you may be a little stumped if you are not really into Japanese food or Japanese influenced cuisines (e.g. UCC) — much of the restaurants are either udon or ramen outlets which to me is a distortion and they should even out the choices for customers.
With the MTR station right above it and a cheap carpark– this place was never to fail. The only thing now is that it is a victim of its own popularity– it gets so busy at weekends that its a pain to shop there and I avoid it like the plague.
