There are two McDonald’s locations at Hong Kong International Airport. One is located in the arrivals hall and this one is located in the main food court after passport control. Due to the cheap prices and brand recognition in HK, it is one of the most popular options. There always seems to be a long line. There are two different lines. One for McDonald’s for burgers and such and the McCafe line if you are looking for café fare and drinks. I was flying out of the North Concourse meaning I had to catch a shuttle bus to get there. Being short on time and not knowing what food options were available in the other terminal, I decided to just grab something at McD’s. The long line for McD’s as well as the equally long lines at other restaurants in the food court led me to try out the McCafe fare. The drink selection is comparable to Starbucks. The food items are on paper quite interesting. They have several panini sandwiches and some untypical baked goods. You have standard fare like cinnamon rolls, but also things you wouldn’t expect to find at McCafe like macarons, lamingtons and Aussie meat pies. Grabbed a chicken & onion panini and a cinnamon roll to go. The panini is very Starbucks-esque as they reheat them up before serving them to you. It was a very strange concoction as there was an egg spread inside. The cinnamon roll which had a croissant like crust did not transport well. It was dry by the time I ate it later that night when I got to my hotel. Hence if you are eating at McD’s, I would recommend sticking with the longer line for burgers no matter how appealing it is to just head to the short line to the left. I will say that the drinks at McCafe are pretty good and worth getting. They are cheaper than Starbucks too. Though you probably should skip the café fare unless you are desperate.
