We came over the weekend for dinner. There were lots of people waiting. But since it was just the two of us, we were seated fairly quickly(under 10 minutes). As soon as you sit down, that’s when your 90 minutes start. We got the Shrimp Tomato Soup Base for our pot. Honestly, it didn’t taste too shrimp-y. Nonetheless the soup was flavorful. You start off with a few trays of meat and once you’re done, you can order more. You are given a medium size bowl(one for each in your party) and you self serve additional items you want to add to you pot. They have a spread of various items, from fish balls to vegetables to noodles. There is even a section where you can make your own condiments. Aside from the main meal, there is unlimited drinks and dessert. Not only do they have soft drinks, you can also get juice and booze. There is also ice cream and a toppings bar. When your 90 minutes is coming to an end, the waiter will drop the check at your table. And yes they accept credit card.

Nabe One is probably one of the best places in TST to get affordable, delicious Japanese Shabu Shabu. We were afraid that without booking a reservation, the queue would take forever until it was time for us(like dim sum). However, we were wrong. Because of the sub-strict 90 minutes«all-you-can-eat» limit, the wait wasn’t too bad. While waiting, we were given the menu to select the soup bases and slice of beef. My friend and I went with the miso and scallop soup bases, which were excellent choices that fulfilled the definition of a balanced meal! For the beef, we ordered the American lean beef since we were craving for a taste of home. Our number is called and we head upstairs to our seats. Immediately, we were greeted by our server and had the hot pot placed on the hot surface. We then went out to the aisle and filled our plates with all the meatballs, veggies, and meats that we could find. The main sauce is a soy-sauce based that can be customized with chilli oil or paste. There was also delicious fruit juices and even beer in the fridge for all to take. The key to this type of a-y-e dining is to pace yourself and not be in a hurry. 90 minutes is actually a long time, so continue to eat at a constant pace and avoid getting full easily with the tasty juices. After you are finished, please visit the frozen yogurt and spend at least 15 minutes. The offerings of mango, vanilla, and strawberry yogurts is amazing. It sounds plain, but when you add boba, mango slices, and raisins, it truly hits the spot! Overall, I am pleased by my experience at Nabe One and it is the best dining experience that I have had in TST.

Craving a good ol’ fashion dinner hotpot? I have two words for you: Nabe One. Nabe One has officially become my favorite place in HK for hotpot. Located near iSquare in TST, Nabe One is about three minutes’ walk from the MTR station — just head out of exit H into iSquare, go up two escalators and then make a right turn. I normally try to make a booking, but almost every time, they tell me that they’re all booked up but that they welcome walk-ins. So we usually take a number and wait. When waiting, you’ll be asked to pick your two soup bases first — more on that later. It’ll typically be a good ten or fifteen minutes before you hear the best sound you could possibly hear at that moment — your number finally being called! You’ll have 90 minutes to eat as much as you want, and because Nabe One is usually packed, especially on weekends or on winter days that are abnormally cold, they’re pretty strict on the time limit. Towards the end, they’ll remind you that the time is almost up and hand you the bill. My trick is to start slow — don’t eat too much and burn yourself out, or you’ll be groaning about not being able to eat any more after half an hour! When I’m here with my friends, we always get the miso and the tomato soup base. The miso soup base is good, but gets incredibly salty after a while that we have to keep asking waiters to add hot water to neutralize it. Despite that, it never seems to water down, so I much prefer the tomato soup base because it’s a lot less salty. The choice of food here is pretty endless — vegetables, different kinds of meat, an array of sauces to choose from, etc. I have no complaints about the food here! For dessert, frozen yogurt and ice cream is all-you-can-eat too! I don’t really like the frozen yogurt here because it’s way too sweet and doesn’t have the tangy undertones that I like in my yogurt. Oh, and drinks are all-you-can-drink as well, so help yourself to the sodas and their different teas! Like I said, the food here generally is great, besides that the miso soup base is ridiculously salty that after a while it’s basically just a pot of sodium. But one complaint is that the booths here are super cramped. It’s kind of hard to wiggle your way in because the benches are so close to the table. It’s advisable to have the people who like being the ones to go out and get food to be sitting on the outside so that it’s easier for them!
