Came here for after work with a few colleagues and although the atmosphere is quite good the service was pretty terrible. There weren’t that many people in the bar when we arrived but the menus were slow to come and the waitress seemed to be avoiding all eye contact with the patrons. The happy hour is pretty good here with cheap beers and cocktails. Some of the more complicated cocktails took a very long time to make. We also order some bar snacks — potato skins, squid and nachos. The potato skins were the best out of the lot, the squid was miserly and the nachos were just Doritos with melted cheese on top with like six kidney beans. It filled a hole but was in no way satisfying. The tables are set up in a good way for talking to the people you are with and you don’t get drowned out by the music which is really nice. From the other reviews it seems we may have left to early to get the real feel for Ned’s as it seems it has live music later on. Maybe I will come back here and try it one more time.

This bar should get more acclaim. I came here out of curiosity and it was one of the best nights of my life. The live band was diverse and had an excellent selection of songs. Drinks prices are fair and they have a good set of cocktails. I’m definitely visiting again when I go back to HK.

You can count on a western feel to this bar — wood tables, lotsa beer, swinging wood quarter doors, etc. You can also count on live music about every night. It does get a bit crowded and the music can be a little obscure.

I’ve been coming here for quite some years for a good time out with friends and this place always starts our night off right! If it wasn’t for this bar, I probably wouldn’t come to Ashley Rd as often when I am back in HK(well, maybe just for 1 – 2 restaurants there). They’ve got a house band that gets down on jazz on a nightly basis so you’re always in good company whether it is the weekend or in the middle of the week! Even the owner will go on stage from time to time and get down on some vocals. Yes, it does get a bit loud in here so you might have trouble conversing with your friend but you’re here to soak in the good tunes and environment while knocking back a cold one! Food here is typical bar fare. You’ve got plenty of greasy & salty grub to pair with your brews! But don’t expect high quality good eats here! Sit down, watch the live band get down and keep sippin’ away. PS — There are occasions when cockroaches will roam around…

Ned Kellys has been on Ashley Road that it would not be the same without it there. The bar is one of the very few bars in Hong Kong with such character that this place should be «listed» to stop it ever from just closing up. Though the name does come from the Australian villain Ned Kelly, there is nothing villainous about the place. the furnishing is in a sense like a ranch(not sure whether its trying to mimic the outback) and you sit very, very closely to each other inside the bar. The party piece of the bar is the music– if you ever walk past Ashley street and hear live music blurting out somewhere then you need to look no further because Ned Kellys is the only place that does that around here. They have a full live band that people come specifically to enjoy and it really is the full ensemble as opposed to some guy with a digital piano on digital sync. You get the full fare of horns and saxophone performance which really creates a jovial atmosphere and they really do a good job with keeping drinkers entertained and having a good time. The drinks list is extensive– it is Aussie afterall(not sure whether they have VB for that matter) but its should keep most punters happy. They serve food there but do you really come here for the food? So don’t expect a Michelin 5 star experience. In all, this bar does not distinct itself from others by the drinks they serve; they do it by giving you a good time and enjoying it with a room full of merry people– its a simple, but happy place.
