Page One

This is my favorite bookstore in Hong Kong. It is HUGE… not just by HK standards either. You can easily spend all of your time in here! It’s also conveniently located in Harbor City.

Amazing book shop with an incredibly large and interesting selection. The design section is especially interesting and as they publish their own books, there are some that you just don’t see anywhere else. They’ve also expanded and the furniture section has some really interesting pieces. The bag and wallet selection is also very good

This review is for the new location in Harbour City — much improved over the disaster that was their former location.
If you like the smell of books and delight in a spacious (yet sometimes cozy!) place to get lost… Page One (Harbour City) is for you.
The rather large store sprawls over two floors, with the first offering mostly magazines (best selection in town!) and the second offering books, food, and miscellaneous stationery and home items.
The second floor is a must-​see, where you’ll walk through large «rooms» of books to reach what you think is the end — a large airy space with stationery and beauty products. But wait! Trek to back and you’ll find a passageway leading to several cozy nooks, this time filled with lifestyle merchandise, including home goods and party supplies (small selection). It reminded me of Anthropologie’s (US chain store) home offerings. Some of the merchandise is admittedly a bit strange (you’ll wonder who buys all this stuff?!) but if you love to browse — and have some time — this is your place.

My friends and family knows that when it comes to birthday, Christmas o whatever other celebration where a gift is given, a book is always a sure bet with me. There’s nothing I like more than that. Even if the topic ends up being really boring, I would still open the book, smell through the pages and read it! A friend of mine and I share this pathology and since we arrived to Hong Kong we’ve been talking about the bookstores we go to… for me it was Joint Publishing that I went to the most, to their English books section (I did a review about this one) until I discovered Cosmos and the latter became my favorite (I also have a review about it). Even though he lives in the Island he frequents Page One in Harbour City so I suspected there must be something good about it. Well, today we were there. I wouldn’t change cosmos for this one but it’s still great. They have two sections: English and Chinese books, but the English one is much bigger and right now they’re on sales, big sales in fact as most of the shop floor is devoted to reduced books by up to 90%. This is not normally the distribution of books and they would have the common bookstores sections: science, languages, travel, business, social sciences… this last one it’s where we stopped and browsed. I noticed they have books I hadn’t seen in any other store: titles that aren’t so famous, but still really good literature. Their bestsellers are laid at the entrance, if you like those.
As it was really busy (because of the sales) we decided to come back on a weekday where the ambience gets a little more ‘bookstory’. Good store but I’m still staying loyal to Cosmos.
