I grew up in Hong Kong and tried many many local congee places and I can say this is the best one in town. It might look like any other congee places to you but what keeps me coming back are: 1) they offer minced beef congee(about half of the congee places offer this) 2) they offer fresh soy milk(again about half of the congee places offer this. I get so annoyed whenever people tell me they only serve soft drinks! Soft drinks don’t go well with congee! Food pairing 101!!) 3) their rolled rice noodle(Cheung fun) is very good, freshly made. Also they offer sesame sauce, sweet sauce and spicy sauce to go with it.(Again, not every places offer sesame sauce!) 4) apart from congee breakfast, they serve decent Hong Kong style breakfast eg spam with instant noodles so you can come with friends who don’t like congee! 5) the are open 24 hours 6) they have enough foot traffic so it is guaranteed that food s always fresh 7) they have many waitresses so food a always served immediately Enough reasons to come back right? Tip is to come here in the morning. The place s just a lot cleaner in the morning before things get busy.

I’ve been here many times for breakfast and it’s perfect when you want a quick local breakfast in the mornings. It’s always busy, but I never had a problem to get a seat. The congee is nice, pair it with fried dough sticks or the one wrapped with rice noodle rolls(zha leung). The Chinese rice rolls(cheung fun) is nice as well. You’ll leave the place with a satisfied tummy.

My mum always says that the best remedy for sickness or bad appetite is to have a bowl of porridge(congee porridge — tomato, tomäto). Anyways, I still stand by that. Sometimes when I have a serious hangover, this is definitely a cure as well. And the best part of this place? It opens 24 hours. So if you happen to be famished and just around the neighborhood, come give it a try. There are two types of porridge — the watery one or the thick one. Some prefer the first type as it is easier to cool down and to swallow right away; some prefer the latter one as they believe a thick one suggests the rice is completely cooked to a point where it has melted. Regardless, this place serves kind of watery(but not too much) if you know what I mean. I kind of like it. And whenever I have porridge, I just have to order those dough sticks. They just mix so well with the porridge. The crisp and a bit of salt. Nice flavor in general. I like to just grab the whole thing and dip it in my porridge for one second. Then it is warm and the noodle rolls are soft enough. The price is just below HKD50 so I will see this as a great deal. If you are looking for a quick meal and can handle the heat during summer? This is the perfect place. Notice that if it is peak hour, you may be asked(nicely) to give up your seats after you finish your meal.
