NOTE — Vegetarian options are sparse so I would skip this place if you are one. It you are pork lover on the other hand, you will have a feast. We ordered a few different dishes. First came 502 — Chinese cabbage, followed by 501 — choi sum. Then came an order of 202 — spring rolls and soon after 403 — deep fried yellow little croaker fish. Everything was really tasty and I really recommend the fish if you are not fussy about picking out the bones(that said its not suitable for a date night lol). Since I am a vegetarian and there was not much choice in that when it came to the dim sum I chose to try 214 — steamed vegetarian & mushroom buns… yeah I wasn’t impressed with those. I found them a bit to bland. To top everything of, we ordered each a soup. I had the 302 — braised soup of shrimp and shepherd’s purse and my husband had 301 — hot and spicy soup. Both were good. Though my soup had a slight gelatin consistency which didn’t impress me much. What I really liked about the menu is that it had a nice visual representation of all the options followed by little pics of what it’s made of(aka pork, veggies, crab, fish, etc). It made it easy to pick. Would I come here again, not for the food. The view was lovely though.

This place is so delicious! My boyfriend brought me here for dinner one night after he was trying to think of places we can go that he had been to on prior trips to Hong Kong. The Dining Room is located on the 12th floor of the ridiculously tall Hysan Place mall in Causeway Bay. Like Kev. L said before me, there is a great ambiance here with an awesome view. This place is really similar to Din Tai Fung and has other Shanghainese options. We ordered some rice with bok choy and fried chicken which was delicious, XLB which was also yummy, some baked buns with pork inside, and stir fried brown rice with shrimp, and an order of zucchini. All of it was delicious and service was pretty good as well. It seems like although they accept seating for large groups here, you will want to get here early or later if you have a larger party. There was a wait when we got there but since there were only a few of us we didn’t have to wait. Prices were also pretty reasonable as well.

I am really impressed with the TDR restaurant located in Causeway Bay vincenty. The place has an impeccable ambience with a terrific city view plus the food is to die for in terms of the Shanghai style. Their famous Shanghai pork and crab dumplings were done in a delicacy. The skin was thin but yet able to hold the meat & juice without breaking. Although the décor does not mirror Eastern tradition setting, the place has an open and comfortable environment.

The Dining Room is a Shanghainese restaurant chain in Hong Kong. This location is in Causeway Bay at Hysan Place on the 12th floor. Rather than take the escalator, there is an elevator that will take you directly up. If you like and/or familiar with Din Tai Fung than The Dining Room will appeal to you. Though the vibe is different. Comparable to the differences between a parent and child. DTF is classic and traditional. While The Dining Room seems to give off a young and modern Westernized feel. I visited The Dining Room not knowing anything about it. I stumbled across it after seeing a promotion in front for a duck breast with glass noodles special. After entering the restaurant, I noticed a nice dining room that would not seem out of place in Seattle. It has the farm to table restaurant look. The restaurant has an excellent view of the Causeway Bay area. I would recommend getting a table by the windows if you can. Like a child, the menu at The Dining Room is very playful. I was amazed by the plentiful menu options. There are the obvious favorites like xiaolongbao and shengjianbao. But also less typical items, particularly in the desserts section. Some are not even Chinese. Recall there being a Japanese marshmallow dessert on the menu. Tried four things. The aforementioned duck breast with glass noodles, organic Chinese greens(don’t know the actual name), an order of shengjianbao and a Jasmine pudding. The duck breast with glass noodles is more of an appetizer. It was delicious, though beware that it is a bit spicy. The Chinese greens which were boiled was a nice veggie option. I have never had them before. It seemed like a cross between lettuce and choy sum. The shengjianbao were as expected tasty. Like xiaolongbao, there is a little soup inside. One order has four pieces which is great since it allows you to order other things. The smaller dish sizes is one nice advantage that The Dining Room has over DTF. Lastly, the jasmine pudding was a nice meal ender. It is creamy and not too sweet. Has a yogurt like consistency. The only thing was that they served the pudding along with the other items. I would have preferred if they waited till I was done with the other dishes first. But that would have meant ordering it later. The food here is reasonably priced, especially given the location. It was a little over $ 20USD for lunch even after the 10% service surcharge, which is still less than I would pay at DTF in the Seattle area. If you are looking for great Shanghainese food with a nice view to boot in Hong Kong, check out The Dining Room in Causeway Bay.

The Dining Room, located in Hysan Place, is a great restaurant to come to for a simple Shanghainese fare. Located on the 12th floor, it’s really easy to get to — simply go to the 2nd floor and walk to the lifts opposite Hollister. Two of the lifts are express lifts to the 12th floor. The other two stop at the 7th and the 12th floor, which is still pretty express! Although it’s a Shanghainese restaurant, the place seems to give off a sort of western or fusion-ish vibe. The name of the restaurant sounds like a café-type restaurant(sounds like a member of The News Room/The Common Room/The Press Room group!) and the open, airy feel of the interior makes it kind of look like a diner. There aren’t really any traditional Chinese decorations at all. At first glance, you would never think that it’s a Shanghainese restaurant! Two friends and I were here the other day for lunch. It was a Saturday, so we had to line up for a fair bit before getting a table. We ordered a couple of dishes to share — the stir fried sticky rice cakes, jellyfish with cucumber, dumpling noodles in soup and of course, the xiao long bao. The food came pretty fast. My favorite dish was the jellyfish — it was really refreshing and I loved the chewiness of the texture. I hate jellyfish that’s really soft and soggy! The rice cakes were not bad too, although a bit on the salty side. The noodles were typical — nothing spectacular, though I quite liked the dumplings. There was a good amount of meat in them and the dumplings weren’t tiny. The xiao long baos were good too — the soup was nice and hot, not too salty, and the meat was tender. I would’ve preferred if the skin was a little thinner, but all in all I was satisfied with the food. I can definitely see myself back here again. The quality of the food was good and was reasonably priced as well. Service was prompt and waiters were polite. I know Hysan Place has a ton of restaurants and anyone looking to have a meal here is spoilt for choice, but I highly encourage you to give The Dining Room a go!
